A lengthy recollection of our experiences during the stay at the cabin.
Thursday 7th –
Cabin mode in full force.
Sleep (or try), get some bush coffee and sit to enjoy it… It used to be enjoyed in silence but no longer with Al and Bryn there ππ
Pro and Al had cleared the path to the outhouse of all the small trees and plants taking over, anything to make that experience more pleasant πππ»πΏπ²ππΎπ©
Some casts were thrown off the dock, no fish were caught π£ More fishing from boat and dock happened throughout the day but with no better results.
Dad had went to the camp earlier in the morning to go check out what was wrong with the motor and make a plan accordingly.
The motor had died, went dead, broke, kaput, done.
So unfortunately a new one would need to be bought and brought up when Nathin and Becca joined us come Sunday.
Burgers and chips were on the lunch menu and then it was nap time all around π π΄
The morning had been sun filled but later in the day the rain came, along with some hail.
It cooled off the cabin nicely for the evening.
Kids went to bed and adults drank in the silence for a while before watching the movie ‘Behind The Mask’.
A somewhat cheesy, yet still fairly good christian made, action movie π
Friday 8th –
Toast and eggs were cooked for breakfast once Pro and Dad got back in from another fishless fishing excursion.
I believe Pro, Mike and Dad went out fishing again because eventually some jack fish were caught and cleaned in preparation for a late lunch.
I enjoyed some reading (as much as a book with the same storyline every other christian genre book, can be enjoyed) and that used up most of my afternoon.
Mike was surprised to see me reading and even more surprised to see how quickly I was done… I’m not someone who reads for days of enjoyment, I read to finish the story as quickly as possible ππ
If anyone has good book suggestions let me know! ππ
I hopped in the boat for a few minutes with Pro and Dad and we fished close to the cabin, trying to accumulate enough for our meal.
And on the third day Bob fried fish, and we ate and tasted that the fried fish was goodπππ»π
Naps may have been taken, or perhaps more reading, maybe a bit of both.
Time blends when up at the cabin π
Evening came and with it the desire to consume a s’more or two ππ₯π«
Us kids headed out and Mike critiqued my marshmallow roasting methods.
I burn them quickly, no time for that slow perfected roast crap π
Pro and I had some campfire classics to sing and a small powwow took place, feeling close to nature up in the woods π
Mike is ever surprised by my interesting actions once I’m in my homeland ππ
Saturday 9th –
The sun reappeared late afternoon and so the beach was calling π
On the boat ride over to the beach, something bit Michiel’s ear π
We didn’t think it was that big of a deal, until his then big ear proved us wrong πππ»
His left ear had grew to about three times the size of the other one and it was sticking away from his head, dumbo style ππ
Burning, red and swollen his ear was a slightly humorous sight if not a tad pathetic π
Brynlee actually liked the water from the safety of Uncle Mikes arms but the shivering had tired her out for the short boat ride back to the cabin.
Dad had gotten the ‘shower’ all prepared for when we got back from swimming and the warm water was quite pleasant ππΏ (Minus the temporary outdoor set up until Shauna is finished.)
Once showers were taken care of, hot chocolates were dispersed and enjoyed βοΈHow tiring swimming is π
Brynlee has learned how to kiss and figured her reflection needed one π
Since evening routine once the kids are tucked away in bed is to enjoy the silence for a few moments and then watch a movie, the Murdoch Mysteries were brought out. They were all the library had to offer, but we agree that we have seen much lamer π
Cabin life lowers the standards on many things,
Cleanliness, how many naps are acceptable in one day, weather or not fish smell is really a bad smell and what movies are too lame to be watched to name a few π
I got my foot-rub from dad that evening π
Pro got hers the night before and I had patiently waited for my turn π
Mikes ear was still rather large come bedtimeπ¬
Sunday 10th-
I woke up to the voices of children.
Meaning more than Alaina was around and that was puzzling since Em and her parents weren’t supposed to show up until that evening.
Turns out they had radioed us the night before that they would be arriving around 10 am but we never heard their call so they got a boat from the camp and made it over by 9:30.
Pro and Dad had just went out fishing but upon seeing a boat enter our bay they returned and we were all (except Josh π) together again π
Pro and I had planned on making donuts so that Nathin and Becca could still enjoy them fresh that night but since they arrived earlier we started the process post haste!
Not much beats a fresh fried cabin donut with white or chocolate icing π
We only ever eat them up at the cabin because of the mess and frying part, plus we need some way to contain our consumption of them because when they are freshly made, they are nearly impossible to stop eating
ππ©ππ©π³π©π¨π©π·π©π²
Mother made everybody sandwiches for lunch
and after that loaf of bread quickly vanished Pro and I went back to the donut preparing. It’s a lengthy process between the mixing and letting rise, before rolling, cutting and letting rise again π
The guys headed out to camp to work on installing the new boat motor Nathin had brought up and didn’t return until almost 4 o’clock π£π»
Good things come to those who wait! π¬
After the entourage of fried deliciousness Pro had the bright idea to go run π
I figured it may hurt but was probably wise so 3km were ran/walked out on the slightly treacherous trail.
I planted it once and then Pro did later on in the same place π
We are such light footed, graceful girls π
Mom had went out jogging and then she had been kayaking during most of the donut making and while she was out on the water she had the best fishing outcome of anyone yet, bringing in 3 walleye π£
The girls got mac and cheese for supper and so did I, everyone else ate steak and barbecued caesar salad awhile later.
I hadn’t realized that would be coming but I still would have had the macaroni over the steak probably π
The girls had broken a glow stick by accident but in doing so the droplets of glowing liquid made a rather perfect fairy trail πππ»β¨
Monday 11th-
Barbecued donuts used as breakfast buns for egg sandwiches made up our breakfast.
Thanks to a suggestion from Patty at camp, since day old donuts lose their charm and become dry π¬
The egg donuts were very good though! π
Nay, Mom and Pro went out fishing shortly after, leaving Becca and I in charge of the four kids.
I later used that as leverage against owning Pro her ten minute back rub from the day before π
Back rubs are rarely given freely around these parts.
If you get, you give… And receive the same time allotment each πππ»
Dad and Mike went out a while later to join them and everyone came back having caught 1 or more each. (Mom says the girls out fished the boys ππππ»)
Meaning we knew what was on the menu for supper ππ£ππ»
Nathin and I finished watching Batman and the snacks that have been eaten (by everyone not just us two) by that point should really have been documented for pure disgusts sake ππ
Supper came together by help of many.
Caesar salad, beans, fries, seasoned avocado and the grand finale, fried fish ππ½
Alaina stubbed her toe and it was rather traumatic so I made the mistake of pretending to be an ambulance and doctor and then suddenly Emily’s toe hurt as well π ππ
Pro then had the privilege of being Doctor π
Mike came in during the doctor visit and left quickly, later saying the brain level was to low to be around, obviously he has no imaginationπ
Pro had made a cake and cupcakes for Bryns birthday the next day and mom and her spent some time decorating it that evening π Then some streamers and balloons were strung about, creating somewhat of a creepy scene if you didn’t know what was going on π
A dart board, guns hung above the patio window where balloons hung, streamers secured by the teeth in the bear rug and balloons wrapped around a wood stoves chimney.
Something much like a haunted toy store/circus effect if it wasn’t known it was our cabin, occupied by loved ones ππ
Pro and I wasted a few hours coloring together.
She also did a seahorse one and a cactus one but I have no patience or decision making skills to complete one on my own π
Tuesday 12th-
Happy birthday Brynlee πππΆπ»
According to the ones present when Bryn woke up, she looked around wide-eyed at the streamers and balloons while pointing and making her sound similar to ‘what’s that’ π
But by the time I awoke she was napping as was Pro, mom and dad π
The only birthday party ages where it’s acceptable to all fall asleep during your own party, ages 1 or ages 50+ πππ»
I had another book to read and Mike had his thumbs to twiddle, he wasn’t enjoying the down time at the cabin as much as he rememberedπ
He took charge of grilling the burgers, bacon and hotdogs for lunch.
After which it was again time for the babes to nap so cake was postponed until later π
Dad, Mom, Nathin and Mike went to work on finishing Shauna.
Three people in the smallish space and limited tools meant Mike didn’t have much to help with inside, so he went to work hauling rocks and sand to create a stone step to the porch.
A cake and coffee break was required βοΈπ
Brynlee was more interested in squishing her toes into her cake then her fingers but after her piece was given and smashed to bits by her, she found out it tasted good as well as felt coolπ
Happy 1st birthday you incompetent mini human πππ
Back out to Shauna the crew went and after much work and many hours, they had all completed the task of building a shower/saunaπΏπππ»
The luxury of having a hot shower available was already enjoyed (x5) that evening πππ»
Wednesday 13th-
Bacon and french toast was ready to be devoured when we awoke π
After cleaning up the little cabin and packing our things to be ready to leave whenever someone would boat us across to mainland, I settled in to paint some more ‘Story Rocks’ and Mike joined Mom and Pro in a game of scrabble.
The story rocks are an idea I seen on Pinterest (big surprise I know π).
You paint a specific image on each stone and then the kids can use them lined up in different order to create their own stories
ππ°πβοΈπ¦π
(I say kids but I had to make a few stories myself, explaining the reason behind them when asked what I was doing π)
The time came for us to leave so we said farewell until Saturday, when they too would come home.
The country life holds so much simple excitement π
An out of place tire track here, a newly fallen branch there, fresh raspberries to be picked and lawns to be mowed π³πΎ
We went out to pick the raspberries.
I managed to get there unscathed but poor Mike left the protection of the house and almost immediately was stung on the neck by another wasp ππ
He was not very pleased as you can imagine π
And that day concluded the end of our cabin trip experiences this visit.
Love the stories Jess
