‘Rising’ To The Occasion πŸž

Wednesday Aug 3rd –

Home alone day 🏑

Mom had to go in to work and well, dad always has to, so that left me alone for most of the day.

Mom left me a note πŸ˜ŠπŸ—’πŸ’•
She always did this when I lived at home, so I was happy to find one again πŸ˜‰

She suggested I try baking bread 😬

As intimidating as it seemed I decided to ‘rise’ to the occasion and bake some…all alone 😳🍞. Β  Β  (Thanks for the pun Dad πŸ˜‰)

It always seemed like such a long process and huge job, hard to make correctly and easy to mess up, a recipe only mom can complete with perfection.

But after a call to Becca to make sure I had the right recipe, I started the daunting task ahead!
And you know what… It worked πŸ™Š

(Slightly more misshapen than mothers bread looks but 😁)

In between the rising sessions of the dough I worked on Emily’s story rocks.

Once those two things were accomplished I headed out for a jog for my third day of C25K.

During the jog I kept thinking of Jo, my best friend who passed away 2 years ago.
While my thoughts were there, my eyes caught the bright coloring of a rhubarb leaf in a pronounced heart shape.

Though it was just a leaf and just a thought, I do believe those little things are shown to us for a reason, right when we probably need them most πŸ’›

Becca invited us to go over there for supper and we happily accepted.
Probably happiest of all was me because that meant I didn’t have to do it… Considering my bread making accomplishment enough πŸ˜‹

Supper was delicious 😊

It had been a slightly drearier then usual day and Becca had hot, chicken tortilla soup and fresh butter horns awaiting us, the perfect meal 🍡

The perfect meal ended with an equally perfect dessert.

One of the best cheesecakes I have eatenπŸ˜›πŸ™ˆ

Thursday Aug 4th –

A little of this and a little of that…

Not much of significance occurred on Thursday.
Small tasks around the house were taken care of, story rocks varnished and writing edited and posted.

We decided to attempt making some appetizers like we had eaten in Saskatoon to go along with our steak supper.

A mixture of cream cheese, crab, shrimp, fresh dill and sautΓ©ed celery and garlic wrapped up into little buttered squares of phyllo crust and baked until browned.

They turned out fairly good but we would make a few tweaks next time.
Less cream cheese and some kind of dipping sauce to break up the flavour but all in all not a bad first attempt πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I admit to having mom take a picture of her plate because it looked better than mine 😜 I don’t like mushrooms or even steak that much, soo her plate wasΒ more appealing to the eye πŸ˜‰

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊

Funny how we can find comfort sometimes in such little miracles. God knows just how to do it.
Agreed that Becca’s supper was πŸ˜˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
