New Dutch Delicacy: Sprinkles

Wednesday Aug 17th –

Finally a day to sleep in πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Mike was working from the house so he went downstairs to work and I retreated further under the covers.

I lounged in the room until noon, slowly waking, checking my phone, doing my hair, cleaning the room etc. etc… It was nice 😊
I then went down and retreated out into the yard with a can of sparkling iced tea β˜€οΈπŸΉ

(Another missed Holland item.)

I hung out there for a while well Mike did some work and then during a lull we went out to get some groceries for when it’s my turns to do some cooking.

Everyone back home asks how I find everything in the stores.
Do I have trouble finding the same items etc. and for the most part I don’t.
There are some things that they don’t have or are a bit different for sure but one of the most quickly noticeable things is the size.
Or lack of 😜

(Pen for size reference obviously 😏)

This is sour cream, purchased for .37€ a container and it takes around four to equal the usual container size I would normally buy at home.
If you plan on doing any amount of baking the sugar and flour bags would be used instantly and a few required in order to complete the recipes AND have a small amount left over for the next thing requiring said ingredients.

Mike went back to work at the house, I unpacked groceries and fried the burger in preparation for taco salad since I was on supper duty as Inge was working.

Inge’s parents came over that evening to visit since Jesse would be leaving for his schooling away from Holland the next morning.
So coffee, tea and hot chocolate was drank outside in the perfect summer evening.

Once they had gone I decided to try cleaning our room a bit.
Since Mike had been in it weeks before me the dressers top had slowly been filling and nothing getting sorted or stored😜
I’m a night owl so it was the perfect time to do so 😊
Papers discarded and filed, clothes folded, garbage taken out, food stash lined up neatly😝

We look like we are such pigs, having our own snack stash but some of it is specialty items brought from Canada and the others.. we have no excuse for really other than the kitchen is two levels down so that’s to many stairs to take if you’re in need of food…you’d pass out from hunger by the time you got down there 😏

*Slight apartment update… we still don’t have one 😜
We had waited to hear about one but turns out they got someone else in it and the other decent looking ones on the market were snatched up before we could even get appointments to look at them.
So right now we are still at Mikes parents house, looking and praying for whatever it is we are sposed to live in 😁*

Thursday Aug 18th –

Mike brought me breakfast in bed, in separate bowls since he doesn’t know the ratio of milk to cereal that I like 😳
He’s so much more thoughtful than I am πŸ™ˆπŸ’•

He also had coffee going.
I cut up some mangos to put in the fridge for a refreshing enjoyment later in the day (since mangos taste extremely delicious here 90% of the time) and then plopped myself down outside πŸ˜β˜€οΈ

We had to go look at some apartments come 2 o’clock so we drove a few minutes away to the town of Velp and took a look.
They both looked fairly nice but we will just have to wait and pray over some things before seeing what we should move ahead with 😊

We found kibbeling near by for lunch and then ice cream.

I’m not a big sprinkle lover but these ones, I likeπŸ‘ŒπŸ»
They don’t give so much of a taste as just a texture just but something about them is enjoyable…more so when they do the pretty colors and not just reds and greens 😜

I went for a nap in the shade outside, having opportunity to use the beach blanket Mike got me 😁❀️
I can’t sleep without a blanket, so normally any outdoor doing of the sport isn’t possible but the blanket was the perfect light weight covering for the job πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

The nap didn’t last long though because we had to go see one more apartment in Germany.
It too deserved consideration but it was even further than Erwin and Sarah live and that is kind of pushing it for Mike getting to work easily.

We decided to have supper at the grocery store 😜

Sounds weird but the Chinese restaurant in the one German grocer makes a really good noodle dish, closer to the Chinese food I’m used to then what comes from the actual Chinese restaurants in Holland.

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
