A Sweet And Savoury Saturday

Friday Aug 19th –
Mike and Inge both worked so it was a day spent alone and I enjoyed it 😊

Writing was finished, the first exercise in weeks done and much sun soaked in πŸ˜‹πŸ˜πŸ‹πŸ»β˜€οΈπŸ’»

I also enjoyed my peanut butter and (raspberry) jam sandwich, which I haven’t had for a long time.
How quickly I forget the simple, yet very pleasing taste of a classic 😍

Green beans with butter and seasonings, pre seasonedΒ store bought chicken, rice and garlic toast was my meal plan for that evening.

John introduced me to a new way to eat leftover rice 😏
Rice, butter and lots of sugar to create what I considered a lazy rice pudding πŸ˜‹πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Saturday Aug 20th –

The town of Doesburg was wandered about on foot, since they close it down to cars on Saturdays.

We were on a search for Loempias and we found them! πŸ˜„

They are much like fried egg rolls but with a thinner crust and served with a hot sauce as well as sweet and sour.
I love them and at 1.10€ a piece you can’t really go wrong πŸ˜‰

Stores were perused and nothing much really accomplished but that’s what Saturday’s are for πŸ˜‹
We got ice cream on the way back to the car and I was pleased with the multicolor sprinkles they supplied at this snack bar opposed to the red and greens ones the day before, it’s the simple things in life that bring me the most joy lots of the time 😜

Back to the house to get the nieces late birthday gifts bagged and ready to go as we would be seeing them later in the day and then a nap to prepare for said visit 😁

I hadn’t had caffeine yet so a stop for some on the way to Germany was in order.
I wanted Starbucks but they don’t have many of those so I settled for red bull (sorry dad πŸ˜‹).

I so miss the coffee at home πŸ˜”
We have some beans close to what I would have had at home but our coffee maker isn’t the best, it’s a different size then at home so we haven’t figured out ratio of beans to water yet and the coffee cream they have here tastes different, so all in all the experience just isn’t the same and leaves me missing my daily pick me up a great deal πŸ˜£β˜•οΈπŸ’”

We visited at Sarah and Erwin’s for a while, catching up on each of our recent adventurings.
The girls got their gifts and we tried to get a picture of them with their ‘big sis, middle sis, little sis’ necklaces but as children go, this was the result πŸ˜‹

We left to go find supper and it was found fairly close at the ‘ BaranΒ Doner-Kebab’ and it was very good πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Our Saturday was one of much munching but the prices make eating or trying new things so hard to resist!
You can almost always find a small, personally owned establishment around that boasts of good food and good prices and that is something that will be much missed when we do make our way to Canada.

I was feeling the painting itch that evening so I asked Mike to help me locate my art stuff wherever we had placed it upon moving back in June.
He helped find the box and I was elated and ready to get to work painting.
Until a search of the box left me with acrylic paint and paintbrushes but no papers, canvass or watercolor paints 😬🎨
So, another looksie upstairs through bags and boxes and I came up empty handed.
The garage was entered, boxes sorted through with Mikes help and paints and papers were found (and ather quickly too)😘

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
