An Excited Scone And Annie Sloan

Thursday Aug 25th –

Mike was working at the office again so I took a relaxed pace to my morning.
Getting the cold coffee he had bought me the day before and seeing how it tasted while watching a morning Murdoch Mystery to help wake me and keep up to where mom and dad are in the series πŸ˜‹

The coffee was pretty good and we may have to purchase a few more 😁

It was edging into the 30’s again so staying inside felt better temperature wise but it also felt like a waste of the weather so I took my painting stuff out and found some shade to work under
😊🎨🌳

Mike had brought me some watercolor paints from work to try.
Boasting of all natural ingredients and colorings of course πŸ˜‰
They were a little grainier then other paints so they needed more water to smoothen them but the actual colors were pretty πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I made a blackberry dessert too, knowing I better make use of the free, wild berries, which we hardly ever baked with at home due to price.
It was called a crumble but I didn’t have my measuring cups searched out from our boxes yet so because of my guesstimating everything it turned into more of a blackberry scone, and I loved it 😍
I’m a boring sort like that, I could eat a whole thing of scones, plain or topped with butter and jam so this scone with a blackberry twist seemed like an over excited scone and I really liked it πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‹
I’d share the recipe, but as I said my measurements were kind of nothing like what the recipe called for, so where I got a scone, you’s would maybe get more of a lame cake and that would be embarrassing to have talked up so highly 😜

Mike managed to come back from work a little earlier so we could head to Arnhem to take advantage of Thursday’s late shopping.
First getting a meal at McDonald’s and eating it while we went through the freaky car wash full of the dangling sponges and washy things thoughπŸ˜¬πŸ” πŸ’¦
Mike even agreed with me when I said having the water, soap and spongy tentacles engulfing us made it feel harder to eat😝

Once in Arnhem we had returns to do, yay πŸ˜„
It is sad if something doesn’t work out, but it then feels like you were just given free money, since you had it in your head that the money was gone already 😜
And what do you do with free money?
Spend it of course 😏

Friday Aug 26th –

Mike borrowed a van and went to pick up the tv table from the second hand store and I got ready to go out and about and then posted on here while he did that.

Items unloaded, toast and scone ate, we headed out to search for some ‘Annie Sloan’ paint, a paint that doesn’t require sanding/priming preps. before hand and it supposedly lovely to use especially when redoing small furniture items.

We found a store called ‘Het Klockhuis’ in Zelhem that carried the paint and I chose a can of province blue and wax and with that purchase, the first steps toward the DIY kids kitchen were underway 😁

Unfortunately my enthusiasm faded most rapidly πŸ˜”
At home we have a habitat store, which sells used or discarded home items for usually good prices.
They have items leftover from people’s home renos, taps/tiles/knobs/drawers/fixtures etc. just to name a bit of what can be found there.
Here, they have no store like that and out of the four, second hand stores we went to, none carried taps or other items which I had expected to find easily.

Mike was a dear and spent his day off driving around to random places and searching for random annoying little things and he didn’t complain a bit❀️
I was complaining more than him and it was a project for me to do πŸ˜¬πŸ™ˆ

We did eventually find a couple of things and spirits lifted slightly.
I won’t go into too much detail because I’m hoping the finished product will be presentable and then I can show it all in one post πŸ˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

We ate at ‘Eten-Drinken-Strand, Ijssel Kade’ (roughly translated to eat-drink-beach, Ijssel ((river in that area)) Made ) and we were not impressed πŸ™„

The burger we shared was so very fake and processed, trying to be disguised under fresh lettuce and bread… but failing.
So that only added to my days downheartedness πŸ˜‹

Once we made it back to the house, Mike helped me dismantle the tv stand a bit and then he had a soccer game to go play, and I had a phone date with my sister πŸ˜πŸ’•
3.5 hours later I hung up and went downstairs for a refreshment 😜
Inge and I then went for an hour long walk in the pleasant cool of the evening.
Unfortunately with cool, come slugs 😬
Their ‘naked snakes’ dotted the paths, none to small either but the one good thing is that they are slow, so at least dodging out of the way isn’t so much necessary as simply watching ahead a bit πŸ›πŸŒ

Mike fiiiinally got back from soccer around 10:30 and brought some snacks with him.

Cause a snack of fried cheese isn’t a dumb idea before bed at alllll 😏😜

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
