Sleep, Eat, Beach, Repeat

Saturday Oct 1st –

We left the house at 3:00 am after around 4 hours of sleep, which had been continually interrupted by the annoying beeping of road work vehicles on the nearby highway πŸ™„
How the sounds of country are missed.
Or the non sounds I should say 😁

A one hour drive and almost 3 hour flight later, we arrived in Greece!
I had dreamed of going to Greece for years but never did I imagine I’d actually be able to go there, and especially not in honour of a 1 year wedding anniversary πŸ™ˆπŸ’™

We took a taxi to ‘Hotel Balkony’ and were warmly greeted and seated with coffees on a balcony overlooking the sea while our room was finished being readied.

A kitten came to keep us company during our wait😊

It’s not usual for us to be landed and situated in a hotel before noon so it’s a ‘vacation’ this time for sure.
More so then the usual work trip/weekend speed touring we tend to do 😜

We decided a nap was in order and then some exploration of the beach afterwords.
Mike said he was too excited to nap, but luckily I didn’t notice in my state of slumber 😏

We walked down to the beach and breathed in deeply the salty, sea air πŸ’™πŸŒŠ

Our hotel is the pink building at the very tip of the land.

We meandered around and stopped for our first official Greek meal rather quickly.

It was similar to the Greek we are used to eating but much like back in Germany/Holland it probably just depends where you go for how good what you order is.
Can’t complain when it was a 7€ meal…which we didn’t even have the cash for and the owner told us very calmly and relaxed that we could come back to pay later or even the next day!

After eating we wandered around the little town more, looking at shops and for an ATM.

There are so many beautiful buildings and half built structures that have been abandoned, it’s sad and pretty and makes you want to buy one 😁
We eventually found an ATM after getting directions from a shop owner and by then (1 hour later) we were in need of another meal πŸ™ˆ

A chicken souvlaki dish was shared between us and then we trekked back to the hotel.
Where another nap ensued 😁
Hey, it’s vacation people 😏

We went to the restaurant at the hotel for supper (not wanting to walk down the large flight of steps that are required to get to town😜) and enjoyed a baked phyllo, honey and black sesame seed covered feta, Greek style burger and peta bread.

It was all tasty and I’m very interested in trying to re-create the feta once we are back in Holland and situated in the apartment.

Bedtime came and nothing else really compares to the scent of the sea and a cool breeze coming through your bedroom balcony to lull you to sleep πŸ˜‰πŸŒŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
