Hartelijk Bedankt Opa

(Title in english: Heartfelt Thanks To Opa)

Friday Oct 14th –

Breakfast, IKEA for a bed frame Inge had spotted for us in the sale corner, Gamma for paint, apartment.

We needed paint for the bed frame as it was going to go from gray ish to gold 😉👌🏻

We hauled up another cart full, including our two chandeliers!

So happy we can finally utilize them 😄

Oma and Opa stopped by to check out our little place and then a bit later Opa returned to help us out with electrical stuff and some fixer upping that had to happen.

The guy who lived there before us, reeeeeally liked to pretend he was a good handy man.
Wires were hidden with plastic covers, going multiple directions, (what he considered) nifty little boxes built to hide things when really it just made it look more tacky, odd placements and lots of glue, the list could go on 😟

It was Opa’s brilliant idea to get rid of the grey boards/cupboard space the same guy had built above the actual kitchen cupboards.
I knew I wouldn’t use them but I never would have thought of removing them myself.

The boys were busy ripping apart and repairing and nothing was really available for me to do so I went to the only semi clean corner and blogged for a bit.

They had to leave to get some items and I managed to get the living room wall painted white while they were away.
I also noticed that my colors coincidentally matched two tea bags that had been laying around?

Was my subconscious effected by TEA? When I don’t even DRINK tea? 😳😜

The boys brought back a snack 😁

Also the IKEA bed frame, which I then began painting gold ✨

The time came for us to leave for supper at Oma and Opa’s house 😊

Oma had prepared us a tasty Indonesian dish and we even got to try her sweet and sour canned pumpkin.
Which is something neither I nor Mike had ever had but we would happily eat again 😉

Coffee and dessert were served, enjoyed and then us three went back to finish up some stuff at the apartment before calling it a night.

Saturday Oct 15th –

Alarm went off, coffee was made and off we went for another day of apartmenting 😁

Opa came over shortly after us and we three got to start the day with coffee in plastic kids cups and a sweet in hand supplied by Inge ☕️🍪

My day go to start with de-greasing the top of the cupboards where Opa had removed the shelving the day before.
My favourite job! 😬

Actually, it wasn’t bad at all.
Inge loaned us some grease removing stuff she had and it worked like a chaaarm😄👌🏻🍀

After that there wasn’t tons for me to do.
Mike and Opa were working all over, meaning cleaning wasn’t an option and I couldn’t help with technical stuff even if there had been room for me in the small kitchen 😜

So I got to sit with my morning coffee #2 and that was ok 😉

The IKEA bed needed building and Mike helped with the first bit and then I finished and got the second coat of gold painted on.

Then it was my turn to paint the walls and ceiling above the cupboards.

(Since Mike doesn’t fit so good in the small spaces.)
John and Inge stopped by, bringing some needed items and moments later, lunch😄

Mike wanted new lights in the hallway and I wanted brighter ones under the kitchen cupboards so that was their main tasks.

The people living there before us obviously owned a long-haired, white animal.
Because there was fur, everywhere.
And they didn’t seem to do much prepping before painting as the fur was imbedded into the paint and siding and everywhere between.

Mike used a scraper, turpentine and I don’t know what else to get most of it cleaned off enough for us to put a fresh coat of paint in the crevices.

Opa left around 7 and we owe him a huge thanks for all his help 💙

Mike and I stayed a bit longer to vacuum and tidy up, collect garbage, put in our first load of dishes aaaand I decided the island needed to be white instead of the only brown found in the whole place 😋

We left by 9:30 and went across the street to get an ice cream and coke for supper 🍦

No one said renovations were supposed to be healthy😉

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊

  1. Your chandelier looks awesome! I so love the paint colours. Amazing what a coat of paint will do to change the look of a room, the apartment looks so bright and cheery 😀

  2. Agree with the above✔️
Cleaning and painting make it feel clean and fresh. Help and meals and always appreciated.
Might want to find a smoothy local to help in the healthy department.
