Birthday Shenanigans And ‘The Good Old Hockey Game’

Friday April 14th –

Michiel’s birthday 😊

I’d mentally been making note of things he said he wanted for the last few months, telling my family what he’d said so they too would have an idea of what to get him.

It was decided that both sides of his family would join in on giving him one big gift which he’d mentioned wanting, countless times πŸ˜‰

A tool setπŸ”§πŸ› βš™οΈπŸ”©
Boys and their toys 😏

So come his birthday morning, I made it upstairs before him so I could ‘wrap’ the tools.
Otherwise known as put a big, black garbage bag around them and lay a note on topπŸ˜‹πŸ™ˆ

He guessed it was tools and after opening the bag and being right, he told us he’d laid in bed that morning and truly hoped it wouldn’t be a golf set that he would open and have to fake excitement over, so he was very happyπŸ˜‚
(Good thing I’d told my brother I thought golf clubs wouldn’t be the best choice 😝)

Mom made us some delicious breakfast bagelsπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Jalapeño and cheese bagels filled with melting cheese, egg, bacon and sauce make for a breakfast even I, as a not really breakfast eater, will eat 😎🍳

The weather wasn’t as fitting to the birthday vibes, being a mixture of sleet, rain, gusting wind and wet snow all throughout the day
πŸŒ¨πŸ’¨πŸŒ§

Nathin, Becca and the kids came over and for having not seen Mike in months, Emily decided he was her favourite and that they’d have a sleep over and I could stay on the floor 😏
Spencer’s love of music and dancing kept us all easily entertained if we felt like having the noise and though loud, for me, it felt wonderful to be together again.
(Missing my sister and her family of courseπŸ˜‰).

Another surprise planned for Mike, was me attempting to make one of his favourite cakes from Germany.

After some much appreciated searching on his sister’s part, to find an English translation of the recipe, I prepared the ‘Mole Cake’ to the best of my abilities.

It’s a chocolate, banana and whipped cream cake.
I don’t like bananas or whipped cream or really even chocolate cake so it is not a dessert I would EVER want to eat 😜

So it wasn’t fun at all to make either and I didn’t really know what it should taste like, so it was a guessing game and after it was all said and done, Mike was thankful and happy about it but he did have some ‘tips’ for the next time I make it for him πŸ˜‹

You gotta do, what you gotta do for the birthday boy right? 😏

Also made specially for him was the β€’Watermelon Cucumber Saladβ€’ which went nicely with the ham, stuffed mushrooms, perogies, cabbage rolls and green beans completing the rest of the meal πŸ˜‰πŸ΄

Saturday April 15th –

Hockey playoffs meant the Dad and Bro wanted to see a bit of the game, so we went over to the siblings house for a tasty dinner of appetizers.

(Obviously Mikes plate, because my foods would NEVER be piled upon each other like that😬)

Pizza, chicken strips, shrimp, salad, fries and toppings, veggies and garlic bread filled out bellies πŸ΄πŸ•πŸ₯“πŸŸπŸ€πŸ₯’

Mike watched the start of the game and then came upstairs to hang out with the kids and us woman for the remainder of the evening 😏

Not sure how he can watch a whole soccer game but not a hockey one.
Yes they are different I know but yet, grass/ice, leather ball/plastic puck, two teams and two nets…
But no, one holds all interest and the other none πŸ™„πŸ˜œ

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
