Saturday June 17th –
Let the festivities continue!
We headed into town around 10:00 am for the day’s events.
First of which, were a couple of garage sales, where Mike scored some movies… for less than the asking price, of course π
If that’s how he gets his thrills I guess ππ»π
Then it was time for ‘the parade’ !!
ππ¬πΆππ΄ππππ
Now, this may all sound like a fabulous town event and with much pomp and fuss… but truly, it couldn’t get much more ‘small town’ then the weekend I now write about π
Which in itself adds a certain kind of humorous charm, though I’m sure there were more times than not, that Mike questioned where exactly he had moved to π
The whole event is put on to raise money for the towns recreation fund, which is used for sports and events throughout the year.
There is a small parade with candy tossed for the kids, a smoke show, a car show, a silent auction and a baseball tournament held throughout the weekend.
Locals and previous locals, family and nearby folks all taking part.
I must admit it was good timing for us, being ‘new’ to the town and knowing names maybe, but not the faces that went with.
So over the weekend we got fairly acquainted with our neighbour folk π
But, the parade π
The best bit of it was watching the nephews face when the cars, horses and tractors came by.
His high little voice getting out the odd, wide-eyed ‘woah’ when he wasn’t frozen, still in wonder and maybe a little bit over stimulated π
I love this picture Mike got of him, though I’ll take credit for the editing, thank you ππ
We quickly went back home, having the need for some good coffee and wardrobe change for those who would soon be sporting it up.
The car show was impressive seeing as they are vehicles, rarely seen or even known that they are around and I love seeing them βΊοΈ
The Mom and Mike hit the ball field and lucky for me that’s when the smoke show began, saving me from more bleacher warming and not being exactly sure what was going on π
ββ
The Camaro won the smoke show but many a car (and truck) gave it their best πππ¨
(The smell of burnt rubber followed us home and clothes were quickly put to the laundry π)
Back to baseball I went, watching as our team finished up with another win ππ
These little cuties were dropped off to their new owner at the end of the day’s events as well ππ
Sunday June 18th –
Since our team had won the day before, it put them in the finals.
Had It just been one of our family members on the team we could have skipped but since it was three of us, we didn’t really feel good about ditching the team, so we went to town and the first game of the day was won by them, yet again π
I wasn’t going to tag along, having had enough of the bleachers for a long, long time but then the sun was shining and I didn’t want to be the turd at home while the family was out π
Since the first game of the day had been won, keeping them in the finals, the second game was scheduled and lunch eaten between the wait.
5 double cheeseburgers and one beef on a bun later and the three of us felt sufficiently filledπ
A quick check on the silent auction bids, let us see that we were holding the spot for the gift cards donated by mom and dad πππ»
I’d had enough by the time game two came around and as Mike was sitting out the first half of that game, he drove me home.
Where I napped as they were finally and sadly defeated, missing out after being this close to total victory … π
Michiel was put in charge of dinner somehow and the choice of the chef, resulted in a buttery sweet meal of poffertjes ππ»
Mother and Father went back to town later that evening to assist with clean up and Mike and I went to our house.
Getting some drywall up in the bathroom and nails taken out of the ceiling π¬
Bet you can’t guess whose job was who’s ππ
Back at home popcorn was made and a sad movie watched.
Telling of child soldiers and rebel forces and their brutality in Africa π¬
Goodnight π
