Too ‘Matcha’f A Good Thing

Friday July 7th –

It was time to test the chai pudding 😬

The scent was still there, though possibly a tad less strong… it looked pretty in the cups with the granola and fruit but my hopes were not high.

The first spoonful proved my suspicions πŸ™„

It wasn’t disgustingly repulsive, I just don’t need to EVER eat it again πŸ’πŸ»

The taste was a subtle seaweed like flavouring but for me it was the smell that was the worst…Mom couldn’t stand the color and that was entertaining to me because the color didn’t bother me in the least πŸ˜‹

Anyways… we tried it and now we know 😜

Dad came home from work early and I made us all a snack to hopefully tide us over until that evenings supper.

Mashed avocado with some mayonnaise, salt and pepper for the spread, boiled egg slices on top and a little wee bit of pesto basil sauce on some, hot sauce on others, all eaten on jalapeΓ±o bagels πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Once they were devoured, we were Waskesiu bound!

With somewhat sprightly steps, we found our way across the burning hot sand to an empty patch of beach where lawn chairs were then set out.

It was a hot day and the weather much enjoyed.

Water was waded into but I didn’t go any further then my knees pretty much.
It was still fresh enough that walking in was an effective coolant for me, though Mom ventured out further and Dad went in all the way.

I prefer my water ‘tropical ocean’ temperatureπŸ˜‰

Mom and I walked along the shore, searching for anything that we could deem as treasure😎

She came walked back with feathers, I walked back with drift wood pieces to hopefully become air plant homes πŸ˜‹

By then it wasn’t yet supper time but it was ice cream time 😎

Dad and I drove into the little town and went straight to Big Olaf’s.
The ice cream shop that is pretty much a part of any Waskesiu trip, no questions asked 😜

One scoop of cotton candy, one scoop of maple walnut, both covered in maple walnut syrup, all nestled in a waffle cone for me and… a scoop of black cherry, in a regular cone, for Dad.

(How exciting 😜)

I saved most of my maple walnut, in hopes that it would make it back to Mom while it was still ice cream and not just melted, sugary soup😎
She did get some in time πŸ˜‰

We sat awhile more, turning our chairs with the sun, until finally deciding to go on the search for food 🍴

The folks have gone to Elk Ridge many a time and enjoyed it and I’ve been to read the menu but never actually eaten there, so that is where we went.

The patio was still plenty warm from the rays of the slowly setting sun, so we settled out there to enjoy our meals.

A steak with truffle oil fries for Dad, and chicken with Saskatoon berry BBQ sauce with roasted veggies was shared by Mom and I.

To finish the meal off, a fire and ice dessert was shared by all.

Layers of white and dark chocolate custard, topped with cherries and drizzled with cherry compote and sauce πŸ’

Everything was very good and it was a day much enjoyed β˜ΊοΈπŸ¦πŸŒ€πŸ–πŸ½πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ’•

Saturday July 8th –

Post coffee, the morning started pretty quickly.

First with a little experimental linen dying for a project I want to try sometime in the future and then to yard work mother assigned to me 😎

Dead heading irises and honeysuckles, weeding here and there, hauling some rubble… etc. etc.

I was also put in charge of planting up a drift wood piece Mom hadn’t redone since last summer 😬
I was unsure if that was a wise task chosen for me but it turned out decently and I guess plants are kind of hard to make look bad?
πŸ˜œπŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸŒΏ

Lunch was boiled eggs and turkey lunch meat slices filled with dill pickle and cheese slices… another fairly healthy, easy, snack πŸ˜‰

More yard work and then a quick stop at the berry patch and that was the end of outside business.

Going indoors, supper preparations took shape soon after, everyone pitching in to create the nights meal.

Eggplant, tomatoes, peppers and mushrooms were tossed in oil and skewered for the BBQ.
Sweet potato chunks boiled.
Shrimp seasoned with some lemon oil and lemon pepper seasoning and a steak sent out to the griller for the meat bits and heavenly smelling Italian seasoned bread Dad had gotten from the farmers market in town β€οΈπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

It was a good meal πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Mike got back from his Toronto trip late that evening and did a small bit of catching up before it was bedtime for all.

A little white gift bag awaited me on my pillow, macaroons that you know all about by nowπŸ˜‰

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
