Specimens, In And Out Of The Zoo

Saturday Nov 18th –

Mike was feeling even worse, having been up throughout the night and serenading us with songs of the sickly that morning 😬

There was a big christmas craft fair going on in Hilo and Mom wanted to go to it, so the sister and I tagged along.
Mike decided to come too, wanting to get out of the house, though he looked like a much sadder version of his usual self 😬😜

The whole thing was christmas themed, holiday decorations filling some booths and holiday tunes in the air. It’s a weird atmosphere for us tropical weather vacationers 😜

I got a wooden sign saying ‘Aloha’ from Simply Signs and I’m hoping it will go somewhere in our entryway 😊

I also wanted this one, but decided to against it… for now 😏😜

We got some different dishes from the food vendors outside and then wished we hadn’t 😏

One dish was clear, slimy noodles and rice with a little wee bit of chicken.
Kind of like solidified chicken noodle soup 😬
The beef and rice bowl I got was a teriyaki flavour but the beef was so chewy it could hardly be bitten.

All in all, besides the meals eaten at our own house, we haven’t been experiencing the most fabulous food choices 😔

A search for shave ice began, as that was one thing that sounded appetizing to the sicko.
It was fine but nothing compares to the shave ice we had when we were in Hawaii years ago on the island of Kauai, from a kindly man named Aaron at ‘Hawaiin Blizzard’.
Shave ice the texture of freshly fallen snow, three flavours, topped with a deliciously sweetened condensed milk drizzle overtop 🤤

This was just…artificially flavoured, finely crushed, ice 🙄

They did have an interesting ice cream flavour name though 😜

We went back to the house wanting to enjoy the rest of the day’s sunshine, poolside 👌🏻☀️

Mike had begun to feel better, so he was sitting out with his feet in the pool too.
Suddenly, he jumped down into the pool and gasped as he had to submerge himself even deeper into the cold water.
I hadn’t realized it yet but he had dropped his phone into the pool 😏

Thankfully it was retrieved safely and nothing was harmed…plus, it was kind of entertaining to watch him dive into the fresh water to get it 😜

Sunday Nov 19th –

After a calm and coffee filled morning and rice bowl breakfast, we headed to the zoo for the kiddos sakes.

It proved entertaining for us adults too, seeing some giant ant eaters which none of us had ever seen in person before and now I’d be fine with not seeing them again 😬😜

I found this monkeys description fairly entertaining 🐒

Though it could prove tiresome to go through life known as ‘The mutilated one’ 😜

There is an ever abundant amount of foliage to gaze upon here and one is always spotting some new shape or color combination, these specimens were found in the zoos.

👌🏻🌿🌳🌴🌸

After a crazy long wait in the McDonald’s drive through, we went to another market.
Seeing more interesting humans and many of the same products as at all the other markets😏

We did find better shave ice though🍧
Having the snowy texture and sweetened syrup poured overtop, as it should be.

Once at home, everyone quickly found their napping spots and settled in for the afternoon😴

After the naps ended, it was a flurry of cleaning up the house for the next mornings departure and a gourmet spread of leftovers was prepared for supper.
Kraft dinner, steak, packaged noodle soup, a few pieces of  toast, guac and an assortment of chips filled our plates😜

Us girls took one last stroll around the yard, searching out some last treasures while still having our own tropical yard and being very pleased with the results 😉👌🏻🍍

Hello humans 😊 This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life 😊
