The Last Of The Tropic Vibes

Wednesday Nov 22nd –

Weโ€™d planned the night before, to get ready as soon as possible the next morning and go spend the day at Hapuna beach.

We ate almond poppy seed muffins from Costco for breakfast.
My pretty much all time favourite muffin, which Canada Costcoโ€™s do not carry??!๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

We made it to โ€˜ourโ€™ spot on the beach and settled right into shell hunting… interesting how quickly people claim things as their own no? ๐Ÿ˜

Mike got into the shelling too, his long arms proving useful in emptying out the sandy holes created by the springs merging into the ocean๐Ÿ˜‰

We did that for a while, getting enough good shells to keep on hunting through the treasure-less stretches, until the next treasure was claimed by someone, encouraging the rest of us to search through one more handful and so on and so forth ๐Ÿ˜‰

The smallest sheller of us all, had to watch that she didnโ€™t fall INTO some of the larger sandy holes but she was copying and showing all her magnificent โ€˜findsโ€™ for awhile too, having no chance at growing up to NOT care about the oceans loot ๐Ÿ˜‹

We sun bathed, tried and failed at staying sand-less, walked along the expanse of beach and just gloried in the last official beach day together ๐Ÿ’•โ˜€๏ธ๐ŸŒŠ

We returned to our apartment to de-sand and go out to eat, Annieโ€™s burgers being the chosen location.

It was dark out by the time we got there but had it not been, I imagine the view would have been a pretty one, sitting at the open, open balcony with palm trees and hints of the skyline ๐Ÿ˜Š

The man who seated us, may or may not have thought that Mike and my sister were the parents of three daughters ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™ˆ
Making that the second time in a month that someone has thought I was Mikes daughter ๐Ÿ˜œ

ย ย

My โ€˜momโ€™ and I shared a chicken pesto sandwich with basil garlic fries and Mike got a classic burger.
Both meals were good, not overly exciting but not disappointing either ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฅช

We stepped next door for gelato afterwords and I got a super tasty, smooth, macadamia nut flavour ๐Ÿจ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Thursday Nov 23rd –

We had to be out of the apartment by 11:00 that morning and we flew at 11:40 that night, so we had the entire day to kill.

We figured we would take that time to do the last of the boutique/souvenir shopping, maybe eat at a wrap place with good reviews etc. and pass the time around town, as the airport there has nothing in the way of food, shops or nice seating even ๐Ÿ™„

Turns out, our plans were not meant to be as it was American thanksgiving and on American thanksgiving, the Big Island of Hawaii… pretty much shuts down ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

We searched and searched AND SEARCHED for places to eat, to buy food for the day or just pass time in general but to no avail.
Our last day in Hawaii was not going as we had hoped.
Which feels dumb to say, knowing we were blessed to even be there but yet feeling so unhappy about being stuck in the vehicle almost all day with no substance and none of the last desired shopping ๐Ÿ™ˆ

Finally, it was clear that McDonaldโ€™s was the only place open, so there we went to eat old fryโ€™s and dry chicken nuggets, then we hit the one Starbucks that was going to be open for a few hours and headed to find a beach for the remainder of the day.

That’s when things started looking brighter.

We found a nice little sheltered area with beautiful water and black lava rocks and then we walked on, over the entire beach.

We seen a total of 11 turtles on that beach alone, found the odd shell and just enjoyed the view.
We stayed there until sunset, talking, trying to soak up all the ocean vibes we could and even swapping some shoulder rubs ๐Ÿ˜‹

We trekked back across the beach, legs beginning to tire by the end and making us think on thoseย extremely unrealistic, tragic scenes in movies, where the tormented main character runs it out on the beach ๐Ÿ˜œ

Back in town we went to Walmartย to buy plane snacks and discovered that it had opened for pre Black Friday hours and it was not the place to go simply for snacks.
Lines of people with their carts heaped high, were snaking back throughout the entire store.
Mike who has never seen anything Black Friday sale ish, was amazed, gushing over his flier and the prices in wide-eyed shock and I think a bit of longing too ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

We stopped at a gas station to clean out the van, sort luggage and get some foody stuff, wanting to do anything but go to the airport.
Which we finally did and there we sat in the noisy, open air style airport, store-less and on hard wooden benches ๐Ÿ˜œ

We flew out at exactly the same times, so quick goodbyes were said and we continued to wave from our boarding lines, already dreaming of the memories made and the next ones we wanted to make ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธโœˆ๏ธ

Hello humans ๐Ÿ˜Š This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life ๐Ÿ˜Š
