A Jem Moment Of Epic Proportions๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿคฉ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ

Sooo I just re-read my last house update and my goodness has it ever changed since then!๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜„

I know I’ve updated a little here and there about the process and specific things that were being worked on so you all aren’t totally clueless thankfully, but prepare yourself for a longer read and mind boggling transformation, non the less ๐Ÿ˜…

The last official writing about the house was when we had just finished demo and the bathroom was getting nearer completion and drywall was beginning ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Now, it is a completely renovated and pretty much totally finished project ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Where to begin ๐Ÿค”

Iโ€™ll be showing BEFORE and AFTER pictures side by side, to allow you to see how it has truly changed ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Mike put new drywall up almost everywhere except for the living room and upstairs walls.

Ceilings downstairs, kitchen, bathroom and a few places upstairs, all got new drywall, post some new wiring, lighting and insulation.

Pot lights were installed in every room on the main level and our chandeliers that we brought with from Europe, hung in the living room and soon the other shall be hung in the kitchen.

As mentioned before, we repainted my moms old kitchen cupboards, taking them from a creamy almond, to brilliant white with understated gold handles.

ย  ย  ย ย

We purchased faux marble countertop at Rona and that was installed along with our matt black sink which Mike found on kijiji ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

The stove and fridge came with the house, so that was a really nice thing to not have to worry about buying in the midst of everything else for now ๐Ÿ˜Š

Mike made the fridge a built-in, which helps keep the kitchen nice and spacious ๐Ÿ˜

ย  ย  ย ย

ย  ย ย

Our gold tap from China made it to us and though shinier then I’d hoped for, I prefer the softer, brushed golds, I still love it ๐Ÿ˜Š

Our pantry door was a bit of an issue, as I’d thought I could give it a white wash/grey wash and in doing so, have it match the flooring etc. but after the white wash and sanding, it looks AWFUL when installed! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

It just looked, unfinished, rather than nicely aged, so I re-sanded the whole thing back to the wood coloring it was, waxed it lightly and plan to frost the glass sooner than later, so the pantry innards aren’t displayed ๐Ÿ˜œ

ย ย

The doorways from the entry to the kitchen and from the kitchen to the living room, were both enlarged not only for look but also necessity, because of Mikes loftiness ๐Ÿ˜

Because of shrinking the massive bathroom back down to what is still a spacious bathroom, we gained another window in the living room making it feel much airier and brighter ๐Ÿ’•

The bathroom vanity as you may remember, was also second hand and repainted a ‘tropical something or other’ ๐Ÿ˜‹

ย  ย

The vanity top had proved to use a little mind work, because it’s larger than most so to order one with a single sink would have been considered ‘custom’, thus much more money than we wanted to spend.
I looked around online about how to re-finish countertops and got an idea purely by chance fromย Eliselove86 on Instagram.

Cement leveler was purchased and we put two layers onto the sink top the vanity had come with, not having much to lose ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป
It turned out great ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปย The mirror is also one that was in the house when we bought it and will be used for now ๐Ÿ˜Š

We took out the tub that was in there and that is how we were able to puzzle in the built-in fridge on the opposite side of the wall and have a shower and built-in shelf on the bathroom side ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Mike got his wish for a fan on a timer, something he and the bro had seen in a hotel and loved ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป
I don’t find it that thrilling but hey, whatever floats your boat ๐Ÿ˜œ

He also picked out the door knobs which I have grown to love, in the matt black, plus they are the style most have in Europe so Mike likes that about them too ๐Ÿ˜‰

A new front and back door were purchased and installed, with a higher window to let in light and keep out eyes ๐Ÿ˜œ

ย  ย

Trim was painted grey by me, installed by him, patched by many and painted one last time by Mother and Mike.

I hadn’t really thought how the wider flooring trim, would also mean wider window trim but once I got used to it, I think it’s kind of a nice change ๐Ÿ˜Š

The stairs had a funky low ceiling of sorts built-in but it was just empty space behind, so that was ripped out and raised and made it so much more open yet again.

ย  ย  ย  ย ย

I decided to leave the stairs as they are for now.
I like the distressed look and they are pretty much the only place in the house we didn’t rip out, so for now they are an original bit, I can always paint them later if I get sick of them ๐Ÿ˜‰

The cedar planking was torn off the bedroom ceilings upstairs and built-in dressers put in our bedroom, since there is no space for a closet.

ย  ย

ย

Mike found us a bed frame at the habitat store which also has built-in drawers, so that was perfect and I repainted it the same as our trim ๐Ÿ˜Š

Flooring… Mike installed all the flooring and we chose a darker (slightly less expensive) flooring for upstairs and then my all time favourite flooring for downstairs in tans and greys๐Ÿ˜„

ย ย

Downstairs he took the time to make a dream of mine come true and laid the floor in a herringbone style ๐Ÿ˜

Somehow it would seem I have no photos of the entry way pre re-doing but here it’s shown as it is now.

ย  ย

This is obviously the condensed version, leaving out many details between June till now, that had to be deeply contemplated before moving forward, many purchases/returns and many overly ‘animated’ conversations ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜œ

I’ll for sure be telling more about some of the processes and projects in deeper detail and as time goes, home decor bits too๐Ÿ˜‰

We couldn’t be more grateful.
For the house itself which God allowed us to buy and for all the help, from many different people.
I am especially thankful, since Mike did 98.5% of the work๐Ÿ’•

So there you have it! Our home ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ’•

Hello humans ๐Ÿ˜Š This is where you learn about me I suppose, though anyone reading this right now most likely knows all the boring details ;) I am Jessica Rose Peters-Hagenouw. (Always thought I'd be able to pronounce my married name but hey, life doesn't go as we plan.) June 11, 1995, tis the day Robert and Bonnie Peters received the most adorable, amazing, wonderful, surprise 3rd child they could have dreamed of. Speaking of being the third child, I have an older brother and an older sister. Both of whom are married and have wee little families of their own, making 'Aunty Jess' another name I go by. I grew up and have lived all of my years up till November 2015 in Saskatchewan, Canada. Making summers that are extremely short and winters that never end, vast open spaces, northern lights, unthinkable amounts of mosquitoes, lakes, forests and people waving to you on the grid road all different things that mean = Home. But Home is not where I'll be for some time. My husband is a Dutchman, living in Europe. Therefore I too have been living in Europe for the last few months. The reason I started this little blog/journal/writing thing, is to document a bit of my "whole new world," for those at home who wont be awake at 3:00 am wanting to hear about how I couldn't find flour at the grocery store. Thanks for stopping by and taking a peek into my little life ๐Ÿ˜Š
