Place : somewhere in Saskatchewan
…. mission briefing – your journey begins with two agents posed as a married couple making their way out of the country, across the border and over to the Americas.
The husband acts as the chauffeur and the wife as a theatrically minded diversion when necessary.
Their mission? Unspecified but something along the lines of swapping goods with a ‘sibling’ or two along the way.
First package disguised as a box of Dutch cookies, second package hidden in plain sight as a GMC truck.
Should they succeed, an exit plan has been arranged by private plane, at an unspecified as of yet, location.
Should they fail… the fate of many rests in the balance.
Agents, do what you were trained for, this may be the longest, most boring mission of your lives.
Operation code name, should you accept : Sasquatch Gone South
The result of my imagination need for slight release, after only hour 6 of a 29 hour road trip 🔝😬🙈
On the date stated above, Mike and I packed up and headed off, end destination, Arizona, midpoint destination, Utah 🤪
We left around 4:30 am, and I staved off sleep for about an hour, than succumbed and re joined Mike around 7:00😜
Just in time to enjoy the hilly (possibly hilliest?) passage of Saskatchewan 😎🏔
Stewart Valley.
From thence on it was just sitting, changing sitting position umpteen times, sleeping more, munching and finally crossing the border.
Mike was flabbergasted at the size, or lack of, the border crossing 😜
A couple lone buildings, a small bluff of trees and then endless white expanding out all around… the people who work at the border must almost stay there week on week off or so it would seem, as there are no towns anywhere one could consider near 🤪
Nothing monumental happened during the next 6 or so hours…my aging body betrayed me, as legs and hips and whatever other body bits began to ache and discomfort was acute but one does what one must to see ones sister 😏😜
I do not recall where this was taken.
What I dubbed as, ‘Meringue Mountain’ 😜
We stopped in Butte (Grow up, not that kind of butt 🙄😜) for a bite to eat around 4:00 pm.
A ‘Greek’ place that wasn’t overly Greek, nor was it that bad for the $7 so it fuelled us up enough to continue on the next three hours to Idaho falls where we had a hotel booked.
Buuuut then Michiel decided he was able to drive further so onward we went.
Finally stopping for our first In-N-Out and then going to the Days Inn and promptly departing 😜
It looked fine online but the stained carpets, interesting welcome and accent pillow-sized bed pillows, had us looking for other accommodations.
So, next stop, the Hyatt 😏
A slightly drastic atmosphere change was immediately felt and for only $20 more 😜
After elevatoring up to the lobby and being kindly welcomed and told about the facilities, we went to our overly large room and enjoyed a good nights rest after the 3:30 am to 11:00 pm day.
Mike needing the rest much more than his useless co pilot 😬
Wednesday 28th –
Hotel morning views.
After rejecting the hotel breakfast that was available to us, as usual, Mike kindly drove into Salt Lake City, making a slight detour so we could hit a bakery I wanted to stop at 💕
Eva’s Bakery, recommended by Female Foodie was a cute little spot.
Coordinated yet mismatched furniture, a selection of breads, pastries and then a sit down menu awaited us.
Though I already knew what I wanted 😉
Lemon cream cheese stuffed French toast with blueberry compote and then a lemon meringue to go☺👌🏻🍋
The lunch features all sounded good too but we figured we’d just stick with breakfast.
The French toast was really tasty, the lemon taste being only the slightest of hintings, the compote not overly sweet and the bread had almost a croissant like texture.
2.5 hours later we pulled up to my sisters place around Cedar City, my excitement bubbling up and curiosity of whether or not she suspected anything, waiting to be satisfied.
I believe it is safe to say, she did not 😆👌🏻
I knocked on the door and then knocked again and as she opened I realized the surprise was for sure surprising 😂
I don’t think I’ve EVER seen her that confused, shocked and pleased in such a short span of time but it was beyond splendid.
We settled in post excitement and were happy to be done driving for a bit 😜👌🏻💕
For the remainder of the afternoon we caught up on details of the surprise and what lead up to it, getting some coffee into our systems and just generally visiting, playing a game of Qwirkle and then welcoming bedtime ☺
Your sister’s reaction is priceless, I love when a surprise can be successfully pulled off!
Also, the view out of your hotel was 👌🏽
