A Tropical Welcome!

Well, an occasion occurred this week, which I wasnโ€™t ever really considering as a future event in my life… our baby shower!

In Canada, it is more customary to have a shower AFTER the baby arrives but due to me being someone who does much better with time to prepare, wanting to be able to enjoy the shower rather than be learning the new baby ropes during a celebration, having summer weather to enjoy and covid being a weird post baby thing to factor in, we opted to have it pre baby Hโ€™s arrival ๐Ÿ˜‰

Iโ€™m so happy we did and thankful for each one accepted the โ€˜out of the ordinaryโ€™ and made the time and effort to make it such a special day โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ’—

To begin with… the theme, location and wording needed to fill out the information for the invitation was decided upon.

Obviously, โ€˜tropicalโ€™ was what we went with ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didnโ€™t have to do very much for this event, for which I truly do feel rather guilty about.
The sister and mumsie gathered decorations, worked on the details, recipes, food planning, games and all else that goes into hosting such a soiree.

Not to mention all of the outdoor work and preparation that Mom and all the family members put in ๐Ÿ’—

On the Monday before the shower, I treated us girls to manicures and ice cream as a pre shower treat… even though ‘post baby shower’ back massage trading, is probably in our futures as well ๐Ÿ˜œ

Wednesday came with some balloon blowing up, thoughts on deck seating arrangements and a game plan for the following morning.

That night and Iโ€™m sure before as well, I have no doubt prayers were going up all around us for nice weather.
The forecast had been bouncing back and forth between full rain, part rain, cloud, full cloud, part sun… you get the idea ๐Ÿคช

What we got was a nice, cool, clouded morning for set up and then a perfect mix of sunshine, blue skies and fluffy clouds, with a hinting of a breeze come start time โ˜บ๏ธ
Making for a absolutely, perfectly comfortable (and bug free) environment ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

Using a mixture of leftover balloons from my wedding and some new color assortments, my sister rigged up this awesome display โ˜บ๏ธ

Painted cardboard cutouts made up the backdrops base and then balloons strung together with fishing string were added using all means of adhesion ๐Ÿคช
String, tape, wire etc.
Greenery and tassels were added in accordingly and how I wish balloons would last and that the whole thing could be transferred to the babes room to be.

Mumsie and the sister-in-law worked tirelessly on deck and house prep.
Chair placing, table arranging, deck furniture wipe downs, bug prevention, food layout and all else!

It takes a village to raise a child they say… but I think also to throw the pre party ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ™ˆ

We even had time to sit and rest up, get in a back massage and change outfits, before guests began arriving at 3:00 oโ€™clock โ˜บ๏ธ

It was a potluck style spread of edible enjoyments, both savoury and sweet ๐Ÿฝ

Refreshments aside from water, were a coffee punch and sparkling peach lemonade ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅค

The โ€˜eventโ€™ began with a welcome, a prayer and then the indulgence of enjoying all the fare.

Following that, the first game was passed out.

The winning guest matched 7 of the 15 language/word combinations ๐Ÿ˜‰
I did a trial run of the game pre party and got ONE right… mostly by accident ๐Ÿ˜‚

Next up was the play dough game.
Everyone was separated into groups and given a couple colors of play dough.
They were then given instructions and a 5 minute timer began.
Each team had to create a baby and then whatever embellishments they wanted and or could accomplish in their time limit.

It was then left up to me to judge which one I considered to be the best… and the worst ๐Ÿ˜‚

The one on the very bottom being the chosen winner and the middle-ish/to the right, being picked as, the least appealing.

After laughter subsided and bellyโ€™s were satisfied, gift opening began… and continued… and continued!

I was truly blown away by peopleโ€™s generosity.
Not only in the gifting but in the efforts made to come, food that was brought and the overall feeling of love and support… and the many uplifting compliments on โ€˜the bumpโ€™…which is truly such a nice term when in reality it could be called such things as, โ€˜the protrusionโ€™ or โ€˜the beach ballโ€™ for example ๐Ÿ˜‚

Mingling and munching continued on throughout the time together. It was a very enjoyable day and I felt very spoiled, thankful and blessed ๐Ÿ’—

(If you were able to attend and have pictures, Iโ€™d love it if you could send any! โ˜บ๏ธ)

So, in conclusion… little bebe will not have to go without and this mom to be, can rest easy in checking items off the list and knowing whatโ€™s left to get in order to be prepared ๐Ÿค“๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Thank you SO, so much to everyone who made this special celebration possible!

Aฮฝฯ„ฮฏฮฟ Greece!

Saturday Oct 9th –

We took a taxi from the hotel to the airport around 9:00 am and prepared for our farewell to Greece.

One last cheese pie was eaten while we waited and some feta purchased just in case it wasn’t as easy to find once we were back in Holland.

Greece will be missed๐Ÿ’™
We had a fantastic time, lovely weather, delicious food and beautiful scenery and friendly people.
It was for sure one of the higher ranked places I’ve been… in my humble, non relevant opinion๐Ÿ˜‰

Our journey around the island can be seen in black ๐Ÿ—บ โœ๐Ÿป

And a random mention here since I forgot to mention/show it earlier, places in Greece had the cutest receipts ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ’•

Our flight left and three hours and a time change later we got back into Amsterdam around 1:00 pm, shuttled to the car, drove through McDonald’s and drove back to Doesburg where we had no time to rest and recuperate as a baby shower had to be gone to!

We literally dropped our bags, showered, changed, got ready, repacked, wrapped the gift and hit the road for another hour-long drive to Germany.

๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿผ It was the baby shower for our soon to arrive, newest niece or nephew and it was set up by a sister from church.
She did a lovely job and the food was delicious๐Ÿ˜‰

Cause that’s what matters at a baby shower right? ๐Ÿ˜‹

My evening was spent there and Mikes was spent with the men whose wives were at the baby shower also.
He was playing tennis, eating and enjoying his 6 hours of freedom I assume ๐Ÿ˜

He and I then spent the night at Judith’s ๐Ÿ˜Š

Sunday Oct 9th –

The 1st anniversary of Michiel and my wedding ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’๐ŸŽ‚

How can one year go by so quickly ??

I told Mike we should add up the days we were traveling to see how much of the year really counted as ‘real life’ ๐Ÿ˜

We had breakfast with Judith and the family and then headed off to church.

It’s for sure taken a chillier turn now weather wise and I’m glad I’ll be getting my warmer clothes unpacked soon ๐Ÿ˜

Our anniversary may have been spent with others and not really romantic but considering we just got back from Greece annnnnd got to eat my favourite pasta at Vapianos, it was alright ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Though I’m pretty disappointed in Vapianos… they cut the portion sizes down, who even does that! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

We went back to Judith’s to spend the rest of the afternoon, chatting, lounging and eventually munching on some tasty waffles she whipped up ๐Ÿ˜Š
