Bible Lettering Outcome

As promised, the art pieces I created while following the 30 Days Of Bible Lettering Challenge.

If you follow Jemstory on Instagram, then you probably already seen these but for those of you who do not, well, here they are 😊

Brush Lettering For Beginners

Brush lettering, the topic a few of you have mentioned I should write about.

Alas, I am not the one to do so and you’d be better off finding a much more competent letterer than I, but I will say a couple of things about it just the same πŸ˜‰

I started lettering out of boredom (and jealousy that someone could write so nicely, so seemingly easily 😜) but because it wasn’t really a major interest then and because I didn’t think I’d be able to do it, I just used a fine tipped sharpie and not a correct brush lettering marker.

Which was stupid 😜

The marker, MATTERS!

When I visited Mom and tested some of her markers, it was the ‘Kuretake’ that changed my lettering life πŸ˜³πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜œ

Recently I’ve been using the ‘Pentel sign pen, Touch’ as well.

It depends what you become comfortable with but I know some who letter with something as simple as kids ‘Crayola’ markers and do fantastically… but it makes my lettering look like, a kids 😜

So, if you’ve tried lettering without the proper tools and you’re devastated and feeling like a pathetically, so called human, wielding a useless hand… try getting a marker that works for you.

I tend to write small and prefer a bit of a firmer, short nibbed marker, rather than some of the larger, softer markers like the ‘Ecoline Brush Pen’, no matter how much I love the vibrant color those ones give.
You just have to find your niche.

Also, I love writing on tracing paper/velum.
If you’ve spent money on a good marker, you’ll want it to last and to give the best results and I believe you get both by using the tracing or velum paper, as normal paper is too rough and shreds marker tips much faster.

Next to tools of the lettering trade, you will want to… praaaactice 😬
Yes, that awful word that nobody likes yet tis true and required in so many cases 😜

I suggest getting a practice sheet of ‘drills’ and learning some of the basic ‘strokes’ before diving into trying a big (or even small) word.

Press heavy/hard on your down lines and soft/light on the lines going up.

Luckily for me, my own Mother (@diamondandwillow) letters beautifully, teaches a lettering class, has drill sheets and a seemingly endless supply of lettering markers and tricks for me to glean from 😁
Without her teaching and help, I wouldn’t letter like I do now.

A few of the Instagram letterers I follow are:

To name a few.
Whether it’s because I like their style, their instructions or what the actually say with what they letter, I know you’ll gain some inspiration from them.

One last point, your handwriting, does not effect your hand lettering!!!

This sample should prove that😬

On the left is some of my (though beginner) hand lettering and on the right is my normal handwriting.

Let’s say my book reports frustrated my teacher back in the day 😬😝

It’s embarrassing but here’s some of the first things I tried with ‘lettering’, pre good marker and practice.

And some of the more recent.

Hopefully this little blurb helps clarify a few things for the very beginning, beginners out there 😊

If you have more questions though, let me know!

#Alpha Get To Know Me

For those of you who don’t have Instagram, I’m going to post my pictures from the #alphagettoknowme lettering challenge I participated in.

It began in March and should have been done by April… but I only squeaked in the last one a day or two before May πŸ™ˆ

I blame travel and moving for the extortionately late finish but hey, at least I did finish it πŸ˜‰πŸ˜¬

The point of the challenge was to make you use/practice your lettering, while helping people get to know a little more about you.

Here’s what I came up with πŸ˜‰

β€’A is for Art and how I began creating . Though always interested in drawing/creating, one of the first things I can remember about it, is when Mom would read aloud a chapter book and have me draw what I was imagining the story to look like. Story/bonding/art time, all in one πŸ˜‰πŸ’•πŸ“šπŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€’

β€’Well… this is the second #AlphaGetToKnow me day and it’s ridiculously hard 😜
Tell the ‘Best quality’? About me?! How about I just list the qualities I don’t posses instead? πŸ˜…
Sharing? Sharing my opinion maybe, but never sharing my foodπŸ™ˆ
Compassionate? More so towards animals than humans 🐱
Thoughtful? In ways to avoid human interactionπŸ™‹πŸ» #introvert
The list could go on 😏

Perhaps though, making use of my imagination is my quality? βœ¨πŸ’πŸ» β€’

Camaraderie, Carbs And Class

Wednesday April 26th –

Preparing for guests 😁

Well… I kind of was but Mom REALLY was, making a batch of homemade bread and ooey, gooey delicious cinnamon buns 😍🍞

I did contribute by making a raspberry torte ( a previously mentioned all time favourite sweet treat of mine πŸ’•πŸ‘ŒπŸ») and together we straightened up the place and did what you do before you have people over.

The people?
Our family 😁

My aunt and cousin were stopping by on their road trip back home and the last time I’d seen them was at our wedding!

Before they arrived though, Mom, Becca and I went out for a walk and I’m not sure why I bothered going because Becca arrived with a gift of the icing and sprinkle covered, mini cupcakes I so love and I wasn’t going to be denying myself any of them πŸ’•
I guess the walk may have countered the effects of half a bite 😏😜

The family arrived and with them, the comfortable camaraderie found amongst kin.

Where familiarity and genes run thick and emotions can be portrayed freely… oh and they brought some super delicious veggies from a greenhouse they know about 😜

After a dinner of taco salad and a dessert of that mornings cinnamon buns, everyone visited away the evening before going to bed, sweet tooth’s satisfied and expectant of the next day’s meals and plans πŸ˜‰πŸžπŸ–‹ Continue reading “Camaraderie, Carbs And Class”

Title Not Forthcoming

Thursday Sept 29th –

Breakfast was some warmed up to perfection, poppy seed bread ❀️

It’s such a sad thing finding a food to love actually.
It’s something to be enjoyed and dreamt of forever after, always thought of fondly and with a watering mouth, but nothing else even slightly similar will ever be as satisfying!
