A Cell For Insubordination

Saturday Aug 26th –

After arising and sipping my coffee with cream and sugar, two things I decided I had to continue to allow myself during this two-week eating plan or I would whither away 😜, I did my morning tasks, whatever they were, before heading over to the house to start working on kitchen cupboard fronts with Mike.

He had went there that morning and installed 🎢 da da da daaa🎢 a doorknob on the bathroom door!
Folks, we now have a working and useable commode πŸ˜„πŸ˜œ

Mike picked the door knobs and though I admit to being hesitant towards them, I really liked it once installed πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I took the cupboard fronts outside and began sanding, after which I carried them to the garage, washed them off and then Mike and I taped and plastic wrapped them all, so that the wooden handles could be spray painted gold 😁 Continue reading “A Cell For Insubordination”

Parents Gone, Send Food

Sunday June 25th –

Since Mom and Dad were still lake life-ing it up, that meant no Sunday breakfast by Bob.

Resulting in some oh so nutritional, brownieπŸ˜¬πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

We headed off to church and enjoyed a service spoken by a visiting preacher from the states😊

After church, I was lucky enough to receive homemade boterkoek from a dear friend 😘
It seems my friends and family all know how to please me abundantly… with food πŸ™ˆπŸ’•

It served as pre and post lunch filler πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Lunch was open-faced flakes of ham sandwiches with picklesπŸ‘ŒπŸ»
Actually a sandwich I really like, even though it sounds kind of pathetic 😜

I napped and Mike went to the house to sand the bathroom countertop.
It dried a nice, light grey color and has a stone ish look to it and we were pretty pleased with the outcome 😊 Continue reading “Parents Gone, Send Food”

Carpentry And Coupons

Saturday May 20th –

I awoke to a baby’s rustling sounds, something that hasn’t really occurred before 😜

The nephew was picked up and taken upstairs to cuddle for an hour before Grams and Uncle woke up and he decided it was time for food.
Cuddles aren’t a bad thing… but I do wonder what the point is of waking up over an hour before you’re ready to do stuff πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‹

Breakfast for all was a testing of the chai pudding I’d prepared the night before, as it had to sit overnight to… ‘pudding’.
(Thicken could be the word I was looking for πŸ˜‹)

It wasn’t half bad!

It’s for sure a different texture but with a couple of tweaks it’s a breakfast I could get used to with some fresh fruit, granola or coconut, since I’m not much of a yoghurt person.
Spencer, Mom and Mike all enjoyed it as well so once I get the tweaking right I’ll probably share the recipe if anyone’s interestedπŸ˜‰

Mike left to work on the house, I began blogging and Mom began cookie making while we took turns caring for the miniature human.

The plumbing, electrician and mechanic bro had fixed Mike and my lawn mower, so I headed back to the house with Mike after lunch so I could get the very thick grass cut, before the towns folk became utterly disgusted with us 😜 Continue reading “Carpentry And Coupons”

Cold Weather Warning And Sugar Cookie Forming

Saturday Dec 17th –

Mike and I both awoke around 7:00 am but we didn’t hear any noises coming from upstairs and didn’t really feel like being awake that early anyways, so we went back to sleep until around nine and than joined mom and dad upstairs on the couches with coffees pretty quickly in hand, thanks to Dads fast serving skills πŸ˜‰β˜•οΈ

A cold weather warning was in effect πŸ˜β„οΈπŸŒ‘
(Nice way to keep convincing Mike of all Canada’s riches 😜)

That didn’t stop him from going out for a short morning walk with dad though 😬

After the guys returned from their surveillance of the area, mom made us all a breakfast of porridge and toast.

Heavy on the brown sugar for me please😏
As we were cleaning up from breakfast, I asked mom exactly how much she had wanted a certain Tupperware container that was only available for me to get in Europe.
I told her I hadn’t gotten it for her because it had been a lot more expensive then I’d thought and I wanted to make sure she really wanted it before I got it.
She said that yes, she did indeed like it a fair amount but maybe we could split the price and call it a partial gift πŸ˜‹

And so we went on cleaning up the kitchen.
As she turned around to get more dishes off the counter though, something that wasn’t there before caught her eye 😜 Continue reading “Cold Weather Warning And Sugar Cookie Forming”

Straight Up Awful (…Awfully Good)

Sunday Nov 13th –

Mike was my driver and actually my translator once again.
He wondered how he did but really, unless he was silent more than half the time I would have no idea if he did badly, I don’t understand German, hence needing the translation Michiel😏
But I think he did well πŸ˜‰

As we were dismissed from church, my stomach was growling immensely, causing my mind to wander to more lunch like things 😬

I thought of the spicy, potato like pastry Mike and I had on our honeymoon, of the gravy filled, sausage and pie like dish eaten in Switzerland, of the beef patties eaten years ago in Jamaica.
It was alllll coming back to me in those few moments.
The foods I longed for but would probably never eat again…

But then we went out for Greek food for lunch and I forgot about it πŸ™ˆ

Lunch was delicious, as usual there at Greek restaurant by the train station πŸ˜πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ΄

Scrubbing Away Stranger

Saturday Oct 22nd –

Poffertjes, courtesy of Michiel made up our Saturday mornings fare πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Annnd then it was time for me to scrub the shower.
I had been pushing it off and pushing it off.
Other people’s fridges kinda gross me out, other people’s pet hair grosses me out, but other people’s showers ??? 😬

Mike helped me mix up a strong cleaning solution and then he went out to get a haircut while I buckled down to scrub out the bathroom.

It wasn’t that dirty but it took a long time none the less.

Mike finally returned (lighter by the amount of hair chopped off I betπŸ™„ ) and he brought back loempias for us 😊
