To Eat, Drink And Become Informed

Thursday, March 22nd, 2018

That afternoon Michiel and I headed to Saskatoon to run some errands and attend a workshop later in the evening.

I write this because we ate and drank good things, got stuff for the house and met some lovely humans… and it was time to stretch the writing muscleย ๐Ÿค“

We dined on sushi.
For the first time since trying it way back before we flew to Hawaii, when we went with friends who knew sushi well and we didnโ€™t have to discover it alone and in the total unknownย ๐Ÿ˜ฌ
It was frighting andย Iโ€™m not sure why but we still find sushi a very risky dish to order on our own somehowย ๐Ÿคช

According to reviews ‘Nisen Sushi’was the place to go, so, thatโ€™s where we went.
The decor and atmosphere were maybe (totally) not THE most welcoming but we didnโ€™t go there to see nicely decorated spaces and feel good, we went there to eat, so technically whatโ€™s lack of ambiance reaaaally matter? ๐Ÿ˜

Both of us were afraid to try this little reddish thingy placed at our table with no words of how to proceed from the waiter, I bravely (or timidly) tried it first.

Thrills Of Vacation And Of Home

Tuesday Sept 19th –

The last of our items were stowed away that morning.

Few clothes may have been bought, but food and a faux sheepskin rug, somehow take up more space then one figures ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜œ

Breakfast was indeed the cake sent back with me the night before, a fine thing to begin ones day of travels with ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Then Michiel’s parents drove us to the airport and it was goodbye time.

We were super thankful to get to see so many of Mikes close friends and family during this trip, since hubster hasn’t been back to Holland since April.

Having a kind of ‘in-between meeting place’ was a blessing and getting to sit and catch up with them all in person and do some things together was really nice ๐Ÿ’•

We left Phoenix around noon, flying to Minneapolis, waiting around there for four hours and eating one last meal from Chick-fil-A,ย before continuing on to Saskatoon ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿดโœˆ๏ธ

The brother was the unlucky one to whom pick up duty fell and we got home past midnight.

Theย comfort of our (kind of๐Ÿ˜œ) own bed beckoned strongly and the ideas of no early morning alarm being set, no hair having to be done the next day and coffee just as we like it, were thrilling thoughts ย to fall asleep to.

For me anyways ๐Ÿ˜œ

Mikes alarm was set and his clothes rifled out of the suitcases, for he had an interview to get to the next morning.

The Beginning Of Buoyancy

Sunday Sept 17th –

It was a preacher from New York City speaking that morning and he gave (me) much to think about.

One thing really stuck in my mind and that was this, ‘we spend too much time looking at what satan is doing and not enough time looking at what God is doing’.

He didn’t go into detail on those thoughts but I personally thought about how we do talk about all the bad things happening and ‘poor us or whomever else and look what so and so did’ etc.

How often do we talk about what amazing things have happened to us or those we know and how we have seen the grace of God around us?

After church, we stood outside visiting in the gross heat for a while before driving over to the couple who had invited Mike and I and his parents over for lunch.

As much as I tried to enjoy and or, appreciate the heat, knowing winter doth knock back home…it was really very hard to do while standing on black asphalt with no breeze in +40 and up temperatures ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

We got to enjoy a delicious meal of pork chops, chicken, salads, bread, casserole style potatoes and a beverage of peppermint tea.

I overindulged and the belt I wore, protested๐Ÿ˜œ

After visiting there for the afternoon, we followed our current hosts, to the next place we were all invited, where sweet treats and more visiting took place โ˜บ๏ธ

After Mike and I grew tired of ‘the adult people’ (๐Ÿ˜‰) we drove over to the house of the friends we’d eaten with during the week.

Getting in even MORE dessert and enough coffee at that point, that we were beginning to feel buoyant ๐Ÿ˜œ

My Own Personal Trip Advisorย

Thursday Sept 7th –ย

I got ready for the day after being awoken at 6:00 am by the sunny daylight, streaming though the wall to wall windows on one side of our room.

I then woke up Mike, so he could get ready too… and so we could go to a close by Starbucks for morning coffee ๐Ÿ™ˆโ˜•๏ธ

Coffee was ordered and enjoyed at a table outside, where it was sipped between Mike and I, while I blogged ๐Ÿ’ป

We then went to Safeway to get some groceries to have at the house and then we returned and ate breakfast with everybody.

After which I painted for a few minutes before we left to meet up with the family of whom this trip was in part, for ๐Ÿ˜‹ย ย The sister-in-law to be and some others, (including all of us of course) drove on to check out some stores before a lunch date at Chick-Fil-Aย ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ—

I really wonder how much I could eat there before feeling OVER sufficiently stuffed ๐Ÿ˜œ

Back at the house, a trial hairdo for ‘mother of the bride’ took place and then Mike and I went to check out the nearby outlets.

The kind of outlets that are still too much money for me, even with the sales going on ๐Ÿ˜‹ย So we continued on to check out a few more stores, also futilely ๐Ÿ™„

‘Twas then dinner time and another restaurant was checked off our list ๐Ÿ˜

An Un-decreased Desire

Monday Aug 28th –

So, this will bore those of you who could care less about what I eat/do with my time.

If you do dislike those things though, I don’t know why you would be here to begin with since that’s pretty much the only two things I write about?๐Ÿ˜œ

Anyways, Monday marked 1 week of being on the 21 day fix – eating plan and workout schedule.

Now, as a slight of stature person, it gets tiring hearing people say that ‘why would YOU need to work out or watch what you eat?!’.

That in itself, almost makes a person lazy, thinking ‘yeah, why would I try to exercise?’ Though truly, no matter if you’re small or not, being ‘healthy’ should never be mocked or questioned I think? ๐Ÿ˜Š

So anyways, Monday was weigh and measure day and some results were good, some less awe-inspiring but overall a difference was there and after only one week, that’s not to shabby in my opinion ๐Ÿ˜

It has gotten easier to consume the foods allowed and not feel starving throughout the entire day, finding many ways to cut back on unhealthy ingredients and snacks, but my desire for a good, thick homemade piece of bread drenched in butter or a stroopwafel or two for breakfast… has not decreased ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿ˜œ

So, as I wanted THOSE items, I instead prepared some more turkey burgers for that night’s dinner ๐Ÿ˜

I WAS going to share the recipe, since the first time we ate them we thought they were pretty tasty, not to mention a lot less fat content then ground beef.

This second time eating them though, proved…different ๐Ÿค” Continue reading “An Un-decreased Desire”

Procrastination, Renovation And Caffeination

Wednesday July 19th –

A fair chunk of the morning was taken up with tidying odds and ends in preparation for the parents return later in the day.
Lawns also needing mowing, a chore that had been delayed greatly by the lack of rain and presence of sun… making for dead grass, not in need of cutting ๐Ÿ˜

The mower then ran out of gas, mid lawn, so I washed up and resigned myself to the couch, where much time was spent writing.

I had wanted and also not wanted, to write what turned into  ~ 07. 20. 14 ~ .
So instead of sitting down and doing it when I wasn’t in a rush, so that it would be easily ready for the right date, I prolonged the decision and then had hours of typing, thinking, retyping, adding, taking away and proof reading ahead of me ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Generally a post doesn’t take THAT long, but the pressure to get that one as ‘right’ as I could, was felt greatly, especially since my posts are usually just glib, day to day posts, like this one ๐Ÿ˜œ

The parents eventually arrived back and tales immediately began being told.
(Mostly by me, Mom seems to think ๐Ÿ˜œ)
She and I walked to the bro’s house to join everyone else to eat pizza and catch up ๐Ÿ•

I got my first real grin and coo out of the littlest niece AND cheesy garlic bread sticks… so it was a good evening ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜‹
