Finally a day to sleep in πππ»
Mike was working from the house so he went downstairs to work and I retreated further under the covers.

Not even one day in Holland and I was already having to head out and do stuff in the morningππ
A Couple Of ‘Packed’ Days π¦π
Tuesday Aug 9th –
The day came to clean out my old room, entirely.
Odds and ends had been sorted and put away at different times and Mom had previously packed up the wedding and shower gifts (that we wish we could be using π)
But now everything had to be taken out, containers added to and small items around the room packed with them so Mom can make use of that area of the house once again.
As I was sorting, photos needed to be taken of weddings supplies so they could be listed for sale, priced and re-packed again.
It was a slow process π
Mom helped with that off and on and then we started pricing a few odds and ends in preparation for a garage sale, someday π
She also prepared us a bowl of cereal topped with strawberries ππ
Next space to go through was the book shelves.
Mom is pressuring us kids to get our items out of her home π
Funny how books can bring so many memories of times past, even though the stories inside really had little effect on the memories made.
Mom would read chapter books aloud to us as kids and it was some of the best spent afternoons, begging her to read just one more chapter ππβ€οΈ
A little bit of paperwork was looked through…trying to be read, understood and completed but the government doesn’t make that an easy process π
So I instead focused on supper.
Well… supper after a family jog ππ
Dad, Mom and I headed out and completed a 4km jog.
Not far for them, who do double that no problem… but far enough for me π¬π
(For nowπ)
Our appetites grew and the crab (thanks Daddy) steak and rice was prepared π
He also gave me one last foot rub before heading downstairs to watch the now typical ‘before bed Murdoch Mystery’ πβ€οΈ
Wednesday Aug 10th –
It was a packing, cleaning, crafting and everything in between kind of day π
I awoke at a decent time (for onceππ) and mom and I got to work finishing filling in some details on the paperwork I was filling out.
Much of it requires financial/past work information that I wouldn’t have access to once I left home, so it had to be done π
How I hate paperwork.
Thank you for the help Mom, couldn’t have done it without you!
Literally. π
Once that was struck off the checklist we did a quick house cleaning, lunch eating and coffee drinking before we settled down to craft a little.
Mother created a masterful decorative banner by hand and it looked like it was professionally printed at a store π
Her amount of talent never fails to disgust me and make me question my legitimate relation to her π
See exactly what she made by going to her Instagram π·π

I worked on painting a shirt, with some guidance from her π
Those things ended up taking hour (as we kind of suspected they would) so supper was soup and a casserole from the freezer ππ΅π΄
The soup was good but Mom had frozen it thinking it would be for two people not three, so split by all of us it wasn’t an overly large portion each…which technically isn’t a bad thing but with mothers soup you can’t help wanting more then needed π
The casserole was fine, not bad by any means… but the cheesecake we remembered we had from Becca washed it down nicely ππππ»
I stayed up fairly late, starting the process of sorting, folding and gathering so packing would go quickly the next morning…
‘Rising’ To The Occasion π
Wednesday Aug 3rd –
Home alone day π‘
Mom had to go in to work and well, dad always has to, so that left me alone for most of the day.
Mom left me a note πππ
She always did this when I lived at home, so I was happy to find one again π
She suggested I try baking bread π¬
As intimidating as it seemed I decided to ‘rise’ to the occasion and bake some…all alone π³π. Β Β (Thanks for the pun Dad π)
It always seemed like such a long process and huge job, hard to make correctly and easy to mess up, a recipe only mom can complete with perfection.
But after a call to Becca to make sure I had the right recipe, I started the daunting task ahead!
And you know what… It worked π
(Slightly more misshapen than mothers bread looks but π)
In between the rising sessions of the dough I worked on Emily’s story rocks.
Once those two things were accomplished I headed out for a jog for my third day of C25K.
During the jog I kept thinking of Jo, my best friend who passed away 2 years ago.
While my thoughts were there, my eyes caught the bright coloring of a rhubarb leaf in a pronounced heart shape.
Though it was just a leaf and just a thought, I do believe those little things are shown to us for a reason, right when we probably need them most π
Becca invited us to go over there for supper and we happily accepted.
Probably happiest of all was me because that meant I didn’t have to do it… Considering my bread making accomplishment enough π
Supper was delicious π
It had been a slightly drearier then usual day and Becca had hot, chicken tortilla soup and fresh butter horns awaiting us, the perfect meal π΅
The perfect meal ended with an equally perfect dessert.
One of the best cheesecakes I have eatenππ
Thursday Aug 4th –
A little of this and a little of that…
Not much of significance occurred on Thursday.
Small tasks around the house were taken care of, story rocks varnished and writing edited and posted.
We decided to attempt making some appetizers like we had eaten in Saskatoon to go along with our steak supper.
A mixture of cream cheese, crab, shrimp, fresh dill and sautΓ©ed celery and garlic wrapped up into little buttered squares of phyllo crust and baked until browned.
They turned out fairly good but we would make a few tweaks next time.
Less cream cheese and some kind of dipping sauce to break up the flavour but all in all not a bad first attempt ππ»
I admit to having mom take a picture of her plate because it looked better than mine π I don’t like mushrooms or even steak that much, soo her plate wasΒ more appealing to the eye π
