Grapefruit Rosemary Mocktail

‘Grapefruit Rosemary Mocktail’, an easily made, refreshing drink with a hinting of rosemary β˜ΊπŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ’•πŸŠπŸŒΏ

I figured with warmer days finally seeming to be upon us, that it was now timely to share this recipe, which I found via Pura Vida Bracelets Blog.

Serves 4 in small to medium size glasses.

What you’ll need :

2 grapefruits
3 stems of fresh rosemary
1/3 cup water
1/3 cup sugar
2 Club sodas

What you’ll do :

Chill the club soda ahead of time.

On low heat, combine the sugar, water and rosemary until the sugar is dissolved.

Juice your grapefruit.

To serve :

Pour 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice into your glasses.
Add in 2 tbsp of the sugar water mixture and top of the rest of your drink with club soda, I used one with a hinting of lemon flavour.
Garnish with a few sprigs of the rosemary!

β€˜Clink, Clink’, enjoy!

A Week In The Life…

Jan 3rd –

That morning the hubster and I worked in a phone date… a tricky thing to do with a seven hour time difference and his jam-packed schedule of mingling πŸ˜‰

The bro in law and nieces came over later that morning… the bro had a new hose to put on the washing machine, which had begun leaking at midnight, the night Mike had left 😜

I worked on some custom art pieces I’d been asked to do, for a good chunk of the rest of the day😊

I avoided the home of my raisers that day, as most over there were ill 😬

Specimens, In And Out Of The Zoo

Saturday Nov 18th –

Mike was feeling even worse, having been up throughout the night and serenading us with songs of the sickly that morning 😬

There was a big christmas craft fair going on in Hilo and Mom wanted to go to it, so the sister and I tagged along.
Mike decided to come too, wanting to get out of the house, though he looked like a much sadder version of his usual self 😬😜

The whole thing was christmas themed, holiday decorations filling some booths and holiday tunes in the air. It’s a weird atmosphere for us tropical weather vacationers 😜

I got a wooden sign saying ‘Aloha’ from Simply SignsΒ and I’m hoping it will go somewhere in our entryway 😊

I also wanted this one, but decided to against it… for now 😏😜 Continue reading “Specimens, In And Out Of The Zoo”

Scent-sational Experiences!

Tuesday Nov 14th –

Nothing beats a warm tropical morning with coffee, feasting ones eyes on lush greenery and a blue pool, with humid salty breezes brushing away cares, to start ones day πŸŒ€β˜•οΈπŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸŒ΄πŸŒΊπŸ“–

We planned on hanging out at our place for the majority of the day, as it was supposed to be a sunny one and it seems like rainy days are more popular on this side of the island.

Mike was going a little stir crazy at the idea of a SECOND day spent at the house (so weird 😜) so he and Dad went to Hilo to sign Mike up as a second driver on the rental vehicle and they passed some time there by getting groceries and I’m not exactly sure what else 😏

Pro and I walked around the yard, searching for wild flowers for a photo I wanted to take, wishing from deep within ourselves that we too, could have yards with such flowers naturally flourishing at our fingertips.

Mom made us breakfast, which was sporting the cutest little bananas, also picked from within the yard😏🍌🍳🍞🍴

Between the bouts of clouded over skies and rain and even some moments of pure sunshine whilst it rained, (which is odder to be in than it may sound) we spent the afternoon poolside.

Later that afternoon Mike, Mom, Pro (the sister whose nickname, not real name, is Pro 😜) and I decided to go check out ‘KaimΕ« Beach’ aka, ‘The New Black Sand Beach’ which was supposed to be fairly close by and have an interesting story behind it.

If you consider 80 feet of lava, covering an entire beach front-village area, interesting πŸ˜³πŸŒ‹ Continue reading “Scent-sational Experiences!”

The Beginnings Of Bliss

Sunday Nov 12th –

After one of the most sleepless ‘sleeps’ ever, I arose at 3:00 am and got ready to leave for the airport not long after.

My brother drove us and once we arrived, we were greeted by an overflowing little airport and longer lines than we’d seen there for sometime but we made it through without a hitch and were off to Vancouver by 7:00 ish.

A fall strewn province greeted us there, (along with a friend of Mikes who was kind enough to chauffeur us for the day) the red and orange trees, green grass and rainy weather, taking us back in time to where it was early fall πŸ’πŸ»

We went to Tim Hortons for a bite to eat before heading to church, having almost the entire day to spend out and about, before we needed to be back at the airport.

Surprisingly, the tiredness hadn’t kicked in yet, so I stayed much more awake during the service than I’d expected of myself 😜

After service, a few familiar, if not slightly older, faces were seen and we chatted our way through the crowd, as one does when accompanying Mike 😏

Lunch was at Aka Sushi.

Our ride was supposedly a large sushi fan and I’m glad Mike remembered that we had hoped to try sushi someday when we could be with someone who knows what they are ordering, so the first experience could be a good one πŸ˜‰

And it was that indeed!

We started with some fried dumpling like things with shredded pork and it told of good things toΒ  come πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

A warm, teriyaki chicken and rice dish was our main, with tuna and dynamite rolls for our truly sushi bits πŸ˜‰

I liked the tuna much more than I thought I would and the dynamite rolls were crab and fried shrimp and very tasty.

An Overabundance Of Little People

Sunday May 27th –

Since there is an over abundance of children around here, Mike and I took our own vehicle to church that Sunday morning.

Our oldest niece here got to sit with us during service and it’s a good thing Uncle Mike was there because he made a rather comfy perch for her during the entire service πŸ˜πŸ˜‹

Michiel was staying at a friends so he could work for some different folks during the upcoming week, so we parted ways and I went home with the rest, to a lunch of soup and melted cheese bread 😁

A nap should have happened but I had to go to our house to sell the wishing well it had, had on the lawn, and the people wanted to come during prime nap time πŸ™„
Then, they had the audacity to say it was larger than they had expected and wouldn’t be taking it! 😜

Maybe this is a silly question… but wouldn’t you possibly think to ask how large an item is before driving over 25 minutes to pick it up? 😏

The bro was working on some more of our electricity and plumbing and then later he and everyone else came over to Mom and Dads for a snack and the pre bedtime sounds of 3.5 tired kids were enough to send Aunty to the basement to rest her ears 😜

(Baby Sarah doesn’t make much noise so she’s the .5)

As I updated the blog that evening, I noticed the advertisement at the bottom of the page was for the very same, specific place in Hawaii which the sister and I had been jokingly daydreaming about going to.

What’s creepy though, is that we looked on her phone, via Dad’s wifi and the ad was now on my husbands laptop…
I don’t like the internet 😬

Monday May 28th –

A walk/jog was bound to happen at some point in the day as it was a beautiful one, so I prepared some juice for post consumption😊

It was one of the most diverse juices yet and the taste made the fact known by being ‘fine’… but tasting more like a nice healthy drink and not a delicious fresh juice you could guzzle πŸ˜‹

We four girls, along with the sister-in-law and her wee people, went to the paved town for an hour of walking and jogging, each doing one or the other, depending who was on stroller pushing duty 😜

It was tiresome but the good kind and afterwords Mom made everyone sandwiches to enjoy outside.

I retreated to my room in the basement to whip up some cement decor, as that’s the only non kid access place in the house at the moment and then I retreated outside to enjoy the sunshine πŸ˜Šβ˜€οΈ

We all went over to Becca’s for a pizza dinner and it was a tasty and loud affair.

((As I wrote this, I laid between ultra soft sheets (from CostcoπŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ˜), enjoying the silence, loving having everyone here but truly loving the silence I was finally experiencing at the end of my day too πŸ˜‹πŸ’•))

Spencer was attempting to say my name weeks ago but he finally got the ‘ss’ part of ‘Jess’ out, so that was a proud moment πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‹

Al, the second oldest niece, is an almost constant source of entertainment with how she words things.

The girls were told to pick their toys up after dinner as our visit was nearing its end, and her immediate and chipper response, with a hand in the air and widened eyes, was, ‘Okay! That won’t be like… no problem at all!’

Earlier she’d seen the fairy I bought as a gift for the oldest niece and she very seriously told me, ‘to be careful because fairies were VERY break-iful’ and later in the day when I’d put a roll of tape on my wrist since my hands were full, she seen it and immediately exclaimed, ‘Oh, my, goodness… I love your tape bracelet’ … but the way she said it made us wonder if she wasn’t giving one of her very first attempts at sarcasm??!πŸ˜‚
