Top 5 Travel Destinations

Well, as we get ready to start another year, plans are made and perhaps, vacations booked 😉
Thus, I decided to write up a little post about our top favourite places.
It’s so hard to narrow a list like this down with weather, location and overall experience playing such a big part in how a person remembers a place but I’ve tried my best and would love to also hear some of YOUR favourite places or, least favourites🤪

Also if you’ve been to any of these places, what your experience was!

Also, for almost all of our accommodations, my husband has booked us places using Airbnb.
We’ve gotten great deals, helpful service via Airbnb customer service and stayed at places that give off such a different vibe then the classic hotel room. I highly recommend 👍🏻🏘

Aντίο Greece!

Saturday Oct 9th –

 
We took a taxi from the hotel to the airport around 9:00 am and prepared for our farewell to Greece.

One last cheese pie was eaten while we waited and some feta purchased just in case it wasn’t as easy to find once we were back in Holland.

Greece will be missed💙
We had a fantastic time, lovely weather, delicious food and beautiful scenery and friendly people.
It was for sure one of the higher ranked places I’ve been… in my humble, non relevant opinion😉

And a random mention here since I forgot to mention/show it earlier, places in Greece had the cutest receipts 😄💕

 

Our flight left and three hours and a time change later we got back into Amsterdam around 1:00 pm, shuttled to the car, drove through McDonald’s and drove back to Doesburg where we had no time to rest and recuperate as a baby shower had to be gone to!

We literally dropped our bags, showered, changed, got ready, repacked, wrapped the gift and hit the road for another hour-long drive to Germany.

👶🏼🍼 It was the baby shower for our soon to arrive, newest niece or nephew and it was set up by a sister from church.
She did a lovely job and the food was delicious😉

Cause that’s what matters at a baby shower right? 😋

My evening was spent there and Mikes was spent with the men whose wives were at the baby shower also.
He was playing tennis, eating and enjoying his 6 hours of freedom I assume 😏

He and I then spent the night at Judith’s 😊

 

 

 

Sunday Oct 9th –

 

 

The 1st anniversary of Michiel and my wedding 😁💕💍🎂

  

How can one year go by so quickly ??

I told Mike we should add up the days we were traveling to see how much of the year really counted as ‘real life’ 😏

We had breakfast with Judith and the family and then headed off to church.

It’s for sure taken a chillier turn now weather wise and I’m glad I’ll be getting my warmer clothes unpacked soon 😁

Our anniversary may have been spent with others and not really romantic but considering we just got back from Greece annnnnd got to eat my favourite pasta at Vapianos, it was alright 😏😋👌🏻

Though I’m pretty disappointed in Vapianos… they cut the portion sizes down, who even does that! 🙄🙍🏻

We went back to Judith’s to spend the rest of the afternoon, chatting, lounging and eventually munching on some tasty waffles she whipped up 😊

Flower Of The East 🌺

Thursday Oct 6th –

 
Good thing we had saved that frozen pizza because it was required for breakfast 😏

 

As we ate our poolside pizza, a car pulled up and out came a person of oriental decent, holding a map and having a floppy sun hat upon her head.
She walked past us towards the house (having clearly seen us) and then turned back pointing to her travel plans and saying they got the villa.
Mike in turn pointed to the time it said they got it at, which was 2:00 pm not the current 11:00 am 😳

She walked away and her and her companions stood confusedly for a few moments before we got the free entertainment of watching them try to back up, turn around and leave 😏

Some nicknames of Zakynthos include ‘the flower of the east’, seemingly fitting by the blooms found just around the villa.

 

There was also a lemon tree and a pomegranate tree but neither were quite ready.
There were a few grapes left on the vine as well but those were mostly overripe 😋🍇

You’re The Pool To My Villa

Wednesday Oct 5th –

 

 

We weren’t super close to town and I also really didn’t feel like getting ready to go into town again, so breakfast was a mix of granola bars and cookies bought at the grocery store the day before 😋

Then, to the poolside 😎

Weather was awesome, pretty much pure sunshine after a few clouds passed by and perfect for sun bathing and trying to get hot enough to jump in the chilly pool 😋

Mike couldn’t handle just sitting still and eating the frozen pizza we had bought for lunch so he went to town and found some bakery goodies and coffees ☺️

The breads were very tasty and cheese filled, (as much of the Greek stuff is) the espresso iced coffees perfect for the lounging life and the dessert… confusing 😜

It had the same filling as baklava but instead of being between sheets of phyllo it had a stringy, almost dry noodle like pastry surrounding it and it was such a weird texture it really weirded out the mouth and it did not get finished 😬

After eating we decided to jump into the pool and just get it over with💦
No time to waste tiptoeing in all slow and shivery like 😏

Sea’s Of Blue-Raspberry Slushy

Tuesday Oct 4th –

We said goodbye to our Villa Levante  room

and went back to the Tranakas Bakery for breakfast.



It was enjoyed once again and then we had to say goodbye to that place too.

Travel is an awesome adventure but also pretty sad when you think of all the new places and things you find to like and then just as quickly have to leave for forever probably.

But we had something else to go discover, and that was the iconic shipwreck beach!

Sand, Sun And Souvlaki

Monday Oct 3rd –

 

 

 

 

We left Villa Levante and headed back down the road to find a coffee/pastry place we had spotted the day before.

It’s awesome sign made it easily remembered and we went expecting good things, which we got 😄🍴☕️

The guy running it didn’t speak much English but he still seemed kind of funny, we’d point at a menu item and ask if it was good or what was better and he’d shrug a little and answer ‘ meh, I don’t like it ‘.
Not really trying to rack up the business it would seem 😜
But he did like one thing which was ‘espresso on the rocks’ so we ordered that, along with classic Greek pastry with vanilla filling, cheese pie and a tasty sesame seed roll with a creamy cheese inside, close to feta but softer and not as strong.

It was all really good and we planned on going back, but right then, the beach was beckoning!

Non tourist season and it being Monday meant that luckily for us the beach wasn’t even too crowded and we were able to rent lawn chairs and a sun umbrella for 6€ and use them the whole day 😊🏖

It turned out to be a completely perfect day at the beach💙

I don’t think I’ve ever seen Mike so relaxed and content to be doing nothing 😜

Not long after sitting down, a few different people selling things came up to us and chatted, offering purses, foot massages and more.

Most were refused but Mike couldn’t resist striking a deal with a man from Nigeria who was selling bracelets.

We soaked up the sun for a while and then ventured into the water.

It was easily one of the nicest beaches I’ve ever been too!
Soft sand with no chunks of coral or seaweed in sight, calm and super clear aqua colored water, staying shallow enough for me to stand in for a long ways out.

Though I found it best to use Michiel as a buoy since I’m not a strong swimmer and also a tad creeped out after I spotted a creepy little flat fish that blended right in with the sandy bottom he was swimming sideways along 😁

Curtesy of Google ⬆️  That is close to what we seen and it was probably around the size of my palm, maybe even a  little smaller but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t freaky 😎

After our swim we decided it was high time to try the food service available to us.
Not only was it the one of the nicest beaches I’ve been to, but the only one with (super affordable) food delivery right to your beach chair.

Talk about living like royalty 😳😄💙🍴

The grilled pork souvlaki was amazing.
Juicy but with edges crisped to perfection and a creamy tzatziki sauce to dip it in, so good 😍

I really don’t remember what else we did in what order, it’s vacation, stuff isn’t meant to be kept track of 😏

I know we sat more, relaxed and got another plate of souvlaki 😏
Also ordered was a Greek coffee which was extremely strong and sweet and had a texture like someone had let the grounds go right through 😬

We went for a small walk and a few odd shells were found, though they really are lacking here… the one fault of Greece 🙄

One more dip in the sea and we called it a day and packed up our belongings.

It had been mostly cloudy all day but still very warm out, I didn’t think we had got much sun, until the evening came and the redness of skin with it 😬

We had an early morning planned to go and discover shipwreck beach, so bedtime was decently early and that was okay with us, there’s nothing like a day in the sun and sea to tire a person out.
