Upcycled Accent Storage

Back in February while Mike was away visiting his family in Holland, I finally decided to take the time and tackle the makeover of this piece we salvaged from the items in the Mac house makeover πŸ€“

Firstly it got a good scrubbing with some TSP cleaner.
Next it was taken apart and I gave it a light sanding, followed by another wipe down/vacuum.

The entire process ALWAYS takes longer than one first thinks when looking at a potential project, so this was done over two full days with multiple breaks, delays, movies for background noise and nourishment stops πŸ€ͺ

I gave the dresser a coat of primer and while that dried, took the old hardware and gave it a vinegar/baking soda soak and scrub before spray painting it all gold ☺️

Mumsie had dark teal/blue paint in the color I had envisioned so luckily I was able to use that and love how it turned out.

It took multiple coats and I had to first brush the paint in the cracks and then roll it on the remaining surfaces to get full coverage.

After I’d got it all painted, the doors were to thick/tacky to actually close, so I had to shave them down…Β it was a soft wood and I was able to do it using a utility knife.

Thankfully so because I don’t like power tools and that would have meant needing Mike around for completion and I really didn’t want to wait for him to finish this thing that I had started in order to semi surprise him when he returned home πŸ€ͺ

He did have to install some sleek new gold handles and magnetic cupboard latches when he retuned but after that, it was officially and totally transformed!Β The gold handles were purchased from Amazon.

The dried palms displayed are actually from my own palm plant.

When one leaf starts to die, I cut and save it to dry and use for filler… maybe not the most beautiful thing I could find but it is free and I have contemplated being able to spray paint them if I want them to look a little more ‘purchased’.πŸ€ͺ

I’m super pleased with how the dresser itself turned out and am always game for extra storage πŸ€“πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

The decor vibe in the basement is semi different from our upstairs and I’ve struggled a bit with it but I like the sort of ‘eclectic/travel vibe’ that I feel it is now starting to embody, in part to this piece πŸ™‚

Airing Out Our Dirty Laundry

Here I was thinking I’d told all there was to tell about our own homes Reno’s but somehow I failed to mention that our basement got (almost completely) redone?? πŸ™ˆ

Well, it did and it’s about time you knew 😏 Continue reading “Airing Out Our Dirty Laundry”

An Inaccurate Portrayal

Monday Nov 6th –

Monday was boring from a written down point of view 😏

Nothing out of the ordinary, the usual this and that, all very uninteresting πŸ™„

Supper was a little interesting through in the fact that Mike had bought some souvlaki pork things to tryΒ and we impatiently waited for them to grill.

They turned out to be pretty good, a nice change from other forms of pork and reminiscent of our times in Greece πŸ˜‰

The morning was spent with high levels of procrastination. Continue reading “An Inaccurate Portrayal”

Savouring The Blessings

Wednesday Oct 25th –

Painting out an idea I had the evening before was how my morning began 😊

Then I packed up more of the boxes, art, furniture etc. and Mother and I headed to my place to work on some more trim and finishing bits until later that afternoon.

As I packed up a trunk, Rolo decided she would like to be in on the moving process 😜

While we worked… the first snowfall began to lightly cover the ground πŸ˜β„οΈ

My friend came over that evening since our schedules finally aligned and since she arrived later in the day, we said we would have to stay up late to make up for it.

Come 9:00 pm, the yawns we’re hitting fast and hard and our conversation began to lull πŸ˜‚

So, to counteract our age, we did some stretches and a little bitty, yet very awful, ab workout… and then went and got ice cream and popcorn for our newly awakened selves to snack on 😜

Life is all about balance right ? πŸ’πŸ»

With our strength and appetite replenished, we managed to stay up until 2:00 am πŸ˜‰

One And A Half Treasures

Friday Oct 20th –

Mother and I went over to MY place and worked on getting the trim upstairs all patched, sanded and repainted, which took up a good chunk of the morning.

Once we finished up there, we headed over to the sisters to enjoy a delicious, beef barley soup for lunch, before we all headed back to Moms, to rake leaves πŸ˜πŸƒπŸπŸ‚

The strong winds the previous day had actually blown many away but they have one massive tree, along with many other, smaller but still leafy trees, so there was an abundance to be raked up and hauled away none the less 😬

8 truck boxes to be precise… and that wasn’t even all of them 😜

Unfortunately no, that is not Mike and my’s truck πŸ’”πŸ˜œ

I skipped out on the last bit of yard work to get things ready for supper and watch the littlest human.

If I’d rather watch a kid, you can tell how high on my enjoyment list, raking is 😏😜 Continue reading “One And A Half Treasures”

Family And Faux

Friday Sept 1st –

Due to happening of the previous night, which may or may not have included running a red light, getting the flash of the camera and knowing a large fine would be arriving in the mail, I wanted to earn some money πŸ™„πŸ˜

The task assigned to me?
Gardening… 😬

3.5 hours of that later and it was as done as it can be for it only being the beginning of fall but it was more than enough for one morning πŸ˜‰

Shakespeare (my mint) couldn’t handle summers end and came to his demise… he was a good mint, sometimes πŸ˜”

Anyone know how to grow basil and mint, all winter long??! πŸ€”

It was actually ridiculously hot out considering falls deceptive look of it being a chilly day
πŸŒ€πŸ‚πŸƒ

My recovery snack post gardening… another super delicious bran muffin with cheese πŸ˜œπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

I truly do like bran muffins, with cheese, so it was a good thing πŸ˜‰

The father returned home for a visit! Continue reading “Family And Faux”
