Conclusion – Captivatingly Commonplace

We were ready and out the door by 8 ‘clock so we could go to what I think was literally the only open restaurant aside from the hotels.

IMG_5190

Veroba’s Family Restaurant.

IMG_5193

The funky breakfast mural painted outside would raise ones hopes for what the interior may look like, but inside it was your classic old style home family diner. Fine, just a bit tired feeling.
It was pretty bustling in there and we waited 40 minutes for our breakfast, Lake ever nearing his patience maximum but pulling it together once the food made its way out … already so much like his parents 🤪😉

IMG_5196_jpg

The hash browns though greasy, were really tasty 👌🏻 Having a nice flavour, with ham & fried onions mixed throughout. The rest was pretty typical. Eggs, white toast, breakfast sausage. Do not get the coffee if you go there 🙈
Prices are reasonable for what you get, and though the atmosphere and wait weren’t the nicest, it wasn’t a bad experience either 🙂

I’ll mention it here because we’re on the subject and I missed it in the retelling of the previous day…
We ate at Evolve, though not having been starving, but needing something before dinner.
Have you heard, ‘You eat first with your eyes, then your nose and last with your mouth’ ?
I believe that is true to a large degree and in front of my eyes was served what Mike described as, ‘food I’d have just quickly tossed on a plate at home, I wouldn’t even serve it to you or a friend when it looked like this’ 🙈
Now that’s not to say it was disgusting looking or even poorly tasting, it just really lacked in presentation and honestly, that’s a part of what I’m paying for when I’m not having to eat my own food 🤪

Back to the day at hand.

IMG_5199

(A picture WITHOUT Lake?! Imagine that😅)

We strolled the streets a little while after breakfast, talking of the game plan for the day as well as while waiting for Lake’s eyes to grow heavy.
So, by 9:45 we were all back in bed for a mid morning nap 😅🙈

IMG_5208

We couldn’t get late check out so we thought it would be a good idea to let Lake splash around in the bathtub once more before assembling ourselves to leave.
I filled it a little, laid a towel down from some traction and set him in.
Being a jacuzzi tub, it was deep and hard to reach into, so when he decided to immediately flip over instead of stay seated, I couldn’t react quick enough to stop his mouth from making contact with a ridge in the tub 😬😫
There were many tears from Lake, many feelings of remorse from me and his first blood loss 🙈
So much for fun in the tub 🤪
Once he calmed down, Mike decided to just take him down to the pool.

I stayed room side and packed up our things.

Let us take a moment to discuss the room.
For being the renowned hotel it is and for paying the price we did (sans continental breakfast) it was a bit disappointing.

Not a single noteworthy touch aside from the bathroom tile and it honestly felt pretty dated and all together a bit rundown after the fairly impressive statement the lobby makes.

IMG_4924IMG_4925

It’s nice to have the spa right there if you’re planning on making use of it and the pool is nice, baby wise even, as there’s no real ‘play’ allowed. So it isn’t a ruckus echoing space, full of splashing all while one’s trying to enjoy the water, which I find appealing.

The breakfast we ordered from the restaurant there was good and though we aren’t generally fans of continental breakfasts, after this trip with Lake I think it would be a benefit. Having one available to grab a muffin or something before simply going out for a large lunch once things were open.

All in all the boys made good use of the pool and I was able to use the spa which probably wouldn’t have happened otherwise, as I had to go late in the evening while Mike stayed with Lake in the room. Even though the room was dated, it’s not as if it was grungy. Would we stay there again? Probably not, but it wasn’t due to poor customer service or dirtiness ☺️

I had my doubts that we could make it down in one trip with all of our paraphernalia (specially with Mike not having full right wrist usage)  but we managed to somehow 🤪

IMG_5223

I walked with Lake to Bella Chic while Mike checked out of the hotel. It was a pleasant little store with some unique jewellery and different items, did I purchase anything for myself? No. But that’s not uncommon nor a reflection of the store 😜

IMG_5224_jpg
I did however purchase a bracelet for Mike for Father’s Day, as the one he’s worn for over a year, got cut off due to his wrist episode 🥴

At 12:50 we began our journey home.

Mike had done a little looking before leaving the hotel as to what route to take and he decided we should stop by the Douglas Provincial Park.

It was a good decision ☺️👍🏻

A $10 admission later, we were in the park and eating ice cream in a boat… a boat on land, imbedded in the earth 🤪

IMG_5267_jpg

(A kind stranger walking by stopped and said she had to take out photo for us because we all looked so cute 🤪)

IMG_5257_jpg

A sign said it was built in . . . well, I don’t remember the year, nor do I have a photo of the sign so I guess you’ll never know how old the land boat was, but safe to say it probably wasn’t super young if they had a sign on it 🤓

Ice cream eaten, we wandered down to the water.

IMG_5306_jpg

IMG_5299

IMG_4821

IMG_5287IMG_5310_jpg

A huge expanse of beach stretched out before us and we found ourselves wishing it wasn’t 2.5 hours away from home.

IMG_5335

Though not having gone deeper than our ankles, we don’t know if it was weedy or not, so maybe if we pretend it was laden with slimy, algae coated seaweed, we won’t be disappointed about its distance from us? 😜

Since little, Lake has hated changing tables/doctor weigh scales etc. so changing him in public restrooms is literally impossible singlehanded.

IMG_4832

So with Mike as a safety guard, a tailgate diaper change and short refresh was taken care of before driving just across the highway to see about doing a ‘little’ walk to see some sand dunes.

IMG_5336

It was +30’s out and we only had Lake’s little town stroller, but with a slather of sunscreen applied on our small persons chubby thighs and cheeks, water bottle and bag of chips tossed in the stroller, off we went to attempt a little loop.

IMG_5344

We ditched the stroller after some time, it not having the oomph to power through what had become a pretty sandy path.
Then it was I who didn’t have the oomph 🤪

IMG_5353

I carried Lake a ways, but as we journeyed on, we realized the landscape on the short route wasn’t going to differ much and we were not equipped or prepared to do the 6 km loop to the ACTUAL sand dunes… so we turned around 🙈

IMG_5342_jpg

Claiming having spotted some Saskatchewan cacti as our achievement 😜👍🏻🌵

Mike searched out a restaurant not too far away and we ate what was like a chicken fried steak and a chicken burger at a very posh golf resort club, overlooking a winding inlet of water filled with sail boats of the elite 🤪

IMG_4837_jpg

Know that feeling when you feel out of place even though you know you shouldn’t?
Well, we felt it 🙈

Behind us, in their flowing summer dresses, tan shorts and their young daughter in a ruffled denim dress, little seashell choker and sun hat a’top her curls, a family sat to eat. Telling the children not to go after the gophers as they ‘weren’t safe!’. Talking of their morning runs and the upcoming get together and who was bringing what, etc.
It doesn’t sound THAT outrageous… but you could just FEEL the implied class difference 🤪🙈

IMG_4844_jpg

No high chair? No problem. Always has to have his feet/toes on something 🤪

The food was decently tasty though, and once we filled ourselves, we quickly left. Driving through Elbow, a tiny, somewhat drab little town aside from the massive summer homes that were built overlooking the water.

Road construction had us sitting for sometime, but from there on out, the drive home truly ensued.
Around an hour away from home is where Lake finally had enough and began to fuss and the fussing turned into tears and the tears into screams 🥴
It lasted 40 minutes in the vehicle with pretty robust unhappiness and then another 30 at home to deescalate and realize the road trip was indeed, over 😅

IMG_5408

For how much sitting he did in the truck and stroller, I think he did good 👍🏻

So, in conclusion…

We didn’t have mouth watering food, but we didn’t have any BAD food.

We didn’t find our room invoking of design features we want to apply to our home, but it met our needs.

The views, though pretty at times certainly, didn’t strongly stand out among those which we’ve been blessed to be able to explore prior.

It wasn’t the greatest trip we’ve taken, nor would we probably do it again anytime soon.

Yet, despite all of that, it was such a pleasant getaway! ☺️😂

It may sound slightly funny, but I think with Lake having done so well, having beautiful weather and we having no little couple squabbles (the sort that can so easily occur over silly things 🙈😜) it all just combined into being a super pleasant little getaway that we really enjoyed ☺️
We didn’t have any extraordinary expectations going into it and maybe that helped too but I personally find it very hard to control my preconceived ideas so it happened by luck this time🤪

IMG_5198

Thanks for tagging along as back seat passengers 🤓

May you also get a chance to experience such a garden variety road trip with your family and enjoy it as much as we did 😉💗

A Delightful Descent Into Decrepitness

Mineral soaking by 8:00 am.

If you’d ever have suggested that would be me… I’d never ever, EVER have believed you 😂

Lake slept good and I did too thanks to the medicated assist 🤪👍🏻 (Mike nearly always sleeps good. Just letting you know this fact so it doesn’t seem like I don’t care about his sleep quality 😉.)

It was still a 6:30 am wake up from him though and unfortunately we couldn’t find any restaurants that were open that early and if we waited until they were, it would be passed the  ‘first nap’ 😅

The new scheduling conflicts a baby produces 🤪

So instead, we hung out in the hotel room and filled the jacuzzi for Lake to enjoy for a bit and ordered breakfast in from the hotel restaurant.

IMG_4990_jpg

Tub time was just the right thing to tire out the sapling and he fell asleep on the sidelines of watching soccer with dad 😉

IMG_4998

Breakfast (though not presented prettily due to it having to be eating in our room 🤪) was good!
It was a BBQ breakfast bowl and I’ve begun to really love breakfast bowls.

IMG_5003_jpg

I like things drenched in sauce, if a sauce is available and I prefer savoury to sweet.
So the idea of potatoes wedges, meat, eggs and veggies, topped with sauce as a way to begin the day, is an appealing one 😉👌🏻

It was a beautiful day, so once Lake awoke, we headed outside to enjoy it ☺️

IMG_5014

We walked through the farmers market and then found ourselves at Wildflowers Bistro & Boutique.

IMG_5015

It was an eclectic little place to explore while waiting for our pecan sticky bun and caramel macchiato, which we then took to enjoy in the nearby park.

IMG_5018

We sat on a bench and dug out the paper bags contents.

IMG_5021
The sticky bun was nice and light without being too airy and sweet but not sickly so and the macchiato was just like Starbucks 😉

The Wandering Market was visited next, as I had read they had pottery mugs available.
There were a few but not quite what I was looking for, so we went back out to explore. Many murals were spotted along our way, which I found to be a charming characteristic 😉

IMG_5031

Popping in and out of gift shops and home decor stores, enjoying the sunshine in between each.

IMG_4764

My ever patient shopping companions  😉

IMG_4769

We stopped in at Taste Patisserie by Katrina, as we always try to hit some sort of bakery on our trips.

IMG_5027

It smelt delicious upon entering and the clean, simplistic elegance was noted and appreciated😉

IMG_5028_jpg 2

What wasn’t my favourite was that none of the goods displayed had either names/descriptions or prices.
I hate having to ask prices of things 🥴
There were two sandwich cookies to choose from, s’more or white chocolate and lemon.
I should have went for the second flavour but they were decent sized cookies and I figured my husband would share with me and he’s not huge on lemon flavours.
So, s’more it was 🤪
It was a mistake in the fact that he didn’t even really feel like cookie so didn’t want more than a bite and I don’t LOVE chocolate 🙈 But I could still appreciate the fact that it was a VERY good cookie sandwich, the texture being very pleasing 😉

It was then nap time ‘for Lake’ 😉😜

IMG_5032

So we walked back to the hotel and all partook in the nap time… an aspect of travelling with a child, that you will not find me arguing about 😴

We decided to go explore via vehicle for a little while, grabbing a Starbucks (as the room only had a Keurig machine, so I couldn’t make use of the coffee grounds I brought 😩) on the way to observing homes and architecture.

Then pausing that exploration, we stopped to try to get some photos.

IMG_5066IMG_5081_jpg
As mom is always the one behind the camera capturing cute little father/son moments, she was feeling a little left out 🙈 …and I loved all of our outfits and wanted them documented 🤪

IMG_5636

Stealing kisses.

IMG_5634IMG_5635

IMG_5633

Believe it or not… this is the narrowed down version. My apologies 🤪

IMG_5632

We decided to eat at The Mad Greek again, since we don’t have greek food available anywhere by us, we figured we ought to make use of it while it was there 👌🏻

IMG_4776

Mike got the boneless dry ribs and Greek salad and I got the feta fries so we could sort of share the two.

IMG_5155_jpg

It should have been called FETA with a couple of fries, as there was a LOT feta 😅
Thankfully it wasn’t as strong as the regular feta and it was easy to move around to equal out the fries and sauce ratio to go with each bite 😉
They were both very good dishes but it got to be a bit of the same flavour, so I’d say that’s where the previous nights platter was nice in offering variety.

The pool was calling our names, so we changed and went up to enjoy them for a while before bedtime, using swimming as a hopeful way to tire out the son 😋 As soon as I stepped into the pool holding him, he tried to lunge out of my arms towards the water 😅

IMG_4788

He truly enjoys himself in the water, splashing and playing but also completely relaxing when being held and allowed to simply float.

IMG_4782

They have flags hanging above the pool… can you spot the one for The Netherlands? 😉

Lake had begun to show a little bit of a rash that morning and I sent a photo to his Oma to diagnose as it had progressively gotten worse come evening.
Her conclusion – heat rash.
Which made sense with the temperature of the mineral pool and him having his wet swim stuff on so much. It’s very handy having a pharmacist on call to ease mom stress 😉
I’m paranoid that he will have an allergic reaction to something and I won’t know what to do 😅😬

He wasn’t overly content in his bed so he eventually ended up in ours for the night.

IMG_5179_jpg
I was wrong to expect the king size bed would offer us space from his tossing and turning though 🤪

Well, reading this now, I see my life and what it was reduced to during this getaway – mineral soaks, naps and eating at the same restaurant more than once… how old did I turn anyways ?!?! 😂

Decrepit –

The Last Hurrah…

Day 5 – July 27th, 2020

Mike had told me to sleep in and rest up and I figured that wouldn’t happen, as 6/6:30 had been my usual wake up time.
I did wake up around 5:30 and told myself I MUST sleep… which I then did, until 9 🤪🙈
Which was maybe a little excessive for the plans for our day ahead but Mike said he didn’t dare wake me since I’m never usually able to sleep in 😏

Because of covid our hotel wasn’t serving the usual breakfast, so we had to head out to find substance.
‘Graze’ was where we settled in at and we got the Farm Fresh Eggs Benedict to share.

A few more little shops were entered as we meandered back to the vehicle and then we drove to find one or two more sights to let our eyes feast on, before leaving for Calgary and eventually, home.

We drove up to this view and I’m not sure of what it was called but we sat with our feet in the fresh water for a few moments while coming up with a game plan for where to go next.

I wanted to see Grassi Lakes but the only way we could see to get to them, posed a lot more steep, loose stone lined paths then I felt comfortable attempting to undertake.

So, we waved farewell to Canmore and drove on to Calgary, needing to make it in time to eat at ‘Monki Bistro’ before it closed 🤓

From mountain ranges and lakes, to roadways, vehicles and cityscapes… both unique and enjoyable to gaze upon in their own way… neither my favourite 😉😜

If you’re in Calgary, PLEASE go eat at ‘Monki Bistro’ and think of us 🙌🏻🤤
I ordered the reverse French toast and Mike got the brisket poutine.

They were both potentially flavourful but in the best way possible.

I’m the type of person that if a dish is supposed to have sauce, I want it to be swimming in it and these were both capable of being afloat 😉👌🏻

Leaving a restaurant utterly satisfied and pleased is such a good feeling. Like when you find something on a super sale or feast your eyes on an unexpected beauty.
Think I’m being dramatic? Maybe… but I don’t think I  am and we really, REALLY like food 😁

We needed to stop at IKEA to get blackout blind for the babes room, so we did a decently fast walk through of the whole place.
I found some smaller sized plates I wanted (been searching for probably a year, no joke 🙄) but of course, they were out of stock 😏
Nordstrom Rack and Homesense were also pursued and finally, we left the city.

Much later than planned… our estimated home time being in the wee AM hours and we still had ‘Drumheller’ to stop at… (but we’re young and free so that wasn’t a problem… right?) 😅

I’d told Mike we should really stop there. I’d been years ago and figured I could use a refresher but I thought he would think it was pretty interesting.
Turns out he took it on faith and didn’t look up a thing about it, so he was pretty shocked when suddenly we descended down into a totally different terrain than moments before😜

On our way to Horse Thief Canyon, we drove by ‘The Little Church’.

Which was much littler than I’d even expected😅
Surprisingly, Mike actually fit inside and it was a fun little stop… the slogan of the church being, ‘Seating ten thousand people – six at a time‘… literally, as it had six mini pews inside.

Horse thief canyon certainly evokes images to match its name… making it easily imaginable to visualize herds of horses racing through the valleys, cowboys with lassos overhead, thundering behind them 😉

Driving quickly because of the soon setting sun, we went to find the Hoodoos.

‘A hoodoo (also called a tent rock, fairy chimney, or earth pyramid) is a tall, thin spire of rock that protrudes from the bottom of an arid drainage basin or badland. Hoodoostypically consist of relatively soft rock topped by harder, less easily eroded stone that protects each column from the elements.’

The earthy tones and warm weather, making for perfect exploration inducing conditions…but we had McDonald’s to eat back in the truck and home to return to, so we didn’t take that exploration vibe too seriously 🤪

I made up my mind to stay awake with the husband until we arrived home and besides some slow/heavy eye blinks around Saskatoon, (1hr away from home) I did it 🤓

We never solidified a name for the child but we did narrow the list from three, to two 🤪
Not my favoured outcome but better than zero progress made I suppose 😏

In the end, it was a great trip ☺️💗

The driving having been so broken up for the most part, that I never endured THAT much discomfort, we had mostly beautiful weather, a lot of good food and for the most part, pleasant company* 😉

*I’m referring to myself and my husband for those who could think I was making mention of the friends/family we met up with as perhaps unpleasant, which was not the case 🤪

The time allotment was good too… we aren’t usually super slow lookers/observers etc. so we got to see a lot, in a semi short amount of time and also get a good idea of what we’d want to see again, if ever.
I’d say Jasper and the drive from Jasper to Banff, was our favourite part.
I’m sure there is much to explore around Banff itself but by that time we were fading a little and it was also so busy with people, it lost the allure a little, same to be said for Canmore.
Though we had much less time in Banff/Canmore so maybe we just needed a little more time to find their Jems 😉

We pulled up to our little home around 3:00 am, crawled into bed post haste and awoke to a sunshine filled +22 by 8:00 am.
The official end of the ‘babymoon’ and the start of unpacking, yard upkeep and checking off the rest of the ‘pre-babe to-do’s’ 😉

Campside Camaraderie

Day 3 – July 25th, 2020

The campers hadn’t planned on having an early morning so neither did we, sitting down at our chosen breakfast place around 10:00 am.
That wasn’t really by choice though, as we had entered and left three other spots before finally settling on our perch at ‘Sunhouse Cafe’… we learnt from the previous evening to be happy with the menu pre settling 😉

The ambiance was very much what we enjoy and the presentation was lovely 👌🏻

Downside, small meals… upsides, tasty, enjoyable atmosphere, good view and nice company 😉

A grocery store was found next and some provisions for the day ahead, purchased.
More campfire sitting, campground walking and visiting ensued for the rest of the morning/early afternoon.

Mike warmed us up some thick slices of buttered sugar bread over the fire, which he’d purchased at ‘Dutch Delicious’ in Edmonton.

Sugar bread being a sweet loaf we purchased often when living in Holland.

A mini walk was taken along the lakes edge, after which I retreated to the truck to stretch out on the back seat.

Cousins catching up.

An ice pack on my ribs and tennis ball beneath my back #comfortable 🤪 It turned into a nap… not all together unexpectedly, nor unfortunately 😉

When I awoke, it was nearly time for supper, which was created by one of the girls on the camping trip and also a couple steaks grilled by Mike and another fellow.

It was all very enjoyed ☺️👌🏻

After dinner, some of us headed off to go on a simple hike near the campground.
We drove a little too far and had to turn around but that was only a good thing because two bull elk were spotted munching alongside the highway.

Their relaxed grass chewing, healthy looking coats and velvet covered antlers, making for a scenic pause indeed ☺️

We found the ‘Yellowhead Mountain Trail’ and began the ‘supposedly’ 2 km trek.
Which was nearly immediately more of an uphill incline than not 😬 I don’t know about anyone else but it didn’t really inspire hope for what awaited us and my heavy breathing had me deeply questioning my abilities 🤪

Hubster picked me some little bush bouquets… they gently got discarded along side the path, as I needed my hands to continue the journey 😉

How hard could 2 km really be though? Also, spot the Mike in the above photo.

Turns out, it could be decently tiring 😂

Onward and upward we went, slowly spreading out a little more, each taking their own pace and finding traction along the mud slick inclines, hopping a couple streams and trying to observe the ‘path’ through 4.5 ft foliage.
The three of us who were a little ways ahead, were starting to question how much farther we should go, when the light at the end of the hike began to shine through some thinning trees 🤪

We called to the others that they were almost there so don’t turn back and then we proceeded to take some rapid fire photos, look at what we came to see and turn around to begin retreating back down, due to the setting sun.

As we hadn’t expected the sun to have time to set, prier to starting said hike 😏

One minor slip caused some leg blemishes for me and Mike didn’t love the downward decline with his knee hinting about its ‘less than prime condition’.
Unfortunately one of our hiking members had a rough go of it coming down, due to some pre existing knee problems but thankfully made it and was quickly given Tylenol, water and a chair and hot water bottle near the fireside back at camp.

All in all, it was a bit of an adventure and really, who wants to talk about the simple little, totally doable walk that they took anyways? 😉

I attempted to look up the hike details later and from what I could see, it truly was only 1.22 km there and back but this flatlander obviously has no experience with mountain side explorations 😛

Black diamond being ‘very difficult’ *…though truthfully that could be referring to the ENTIRE hike and not just the part up to the viewpoint, where we called it a day 😉

We again spent the last evening together by the fireside (luckily with a little less smoke inhalation) and we didn’t officially part ways until around midnight, bidding the friends goodbye until next time.
Getting us back to our hostel and in bed by 1:00 ish.

Bed hasn’t felt so good to fall into, freshly showered and comfortably clad, in sometime 🙌🏻

Gaining – Both Weight & Elevation

Day 2 – July 24th, 2020

It was a fresh morning with some light sprinklings of rain as we left our Airbnb room and headed off to find breakfast.

We decided to take up our old habit of sharing one order of food, not even for the sake of prices but more so we can eat more flavours per day 🙈
Stopping one place, eating, moving on to the next and so on 😉👌🏻

‘Toast Culture’ had many good reviews and an appealing Instagram page so we were looking forward to it.
Though the service was good and the food fine, it wasn’t that burst of flavour we’d hoped for.
Having to generously salt and pepper the food and paying $17.00 for the one dish that was mainly a bowl of potatoes.
It was fine and we FELT good after eating the fresher style of meal apposed to some fried platter but it just didn’t impress us as hoped I suppose.

Since we weren’t really filled from that experience, I looked up cafes/bakeries nearby… the desire for a ‘coffee like’ drink ( since hot coffee lost its appeal over a month ago #pregnantproblems) was strong, I think due to the slightly chilly morning.

‘Chocorrant’ was found a moment away and we readily ordered their lemon meringue and crème brûlée croissants and a hazelnut coffee.

The croissants were delicious 🙌🏻🤤

Just like croissants we’d have eaten in Europe but with the added enjoyment of flavourful fillings, of two of our favourite things.
They made up for the breakfast bowl 😉

We could then begin our 4.5 hr drive to Jasper.
I succumbed to sleeping the first 2 hours away, pretty quickly.
Mike listened to another ‘Father Gilbert’ and said he actually didn’t mind it… he’s not usually big on audio books/radio dramas but having nothing to do but drive or talk to a sleeping wife, must have set the right tone 🤪

We paused for a bathroom/refreshment break at Starbucks in Hinton and that’s also when I pulled out ‘the butt pillow’ 😂
I borrowed it from my sister, (not as gross as it could unintentionally sound 🙈) who’d used it during their road trip from The States to Canada back when they moved.
It’s a gel type pillow that is meant to raise the sitting position for short people, so that the back of the user actually sits in the right spot on the vehicle seats.
It definitely helps 👌🏻

Compressions socks were also fought back on… not the easiest thing at any point in life but for sure not with a baby belly, in a vehicle, when the small person is up in your ribs. Mike may have been roped into sock putting on/removing during future wears 😜

Mountains finally began edging nearer but we didn’t see a single animal besides some fenced in Bison way back at the beginning of Alberta 😜

Personal size fruit cups that mumsie had sent with us were eaten…

I only had my little gold spoons from home to bring with and those, along with my silk pillowcase, made for a rather posh looking road trip moment I thought 😉😋

We detoured a couple minutes off our main route, stopping at Annette Lake, as I’d read it was a good one to do a little walking at if one desired and that was an accurate description.

With beautiful blue and turquoise waters, sunshine’s and mountains in the foreground, it made for a lovely ‘first stop’ and we wondered down the paved path alongside it for a little stretch.

We got to our hotel in Jasper not long after, ‘HI Jasper’.

A newly built hostel style complex and it was done so very nicely.
Clean simple lines, lots of windows, a nice dining/shared kitchen area if you needed and our room, though a little sterile, was clean and spacious 👍🏻

We rested there awhile, stretching our vehicle contorted bodies while searching for where we wanted to try going for supper.

We went to The Raven.

First that is 😜

The prices seemed high, which we pretty much expected but none of the meals really jumped out at us either.
By that point it felt awkward to leave as we’d already been served our waters, so we ordered what sounded like a very tasty Brie and baguette appetizer. Brie, rhubarb date chutney, candied pecans, garlic butter spread baguette and pickled grapes. It was very little but VERY flavour filled and tasty, if not actually filling 😜

We walked around town a little more, trying to decide if we should share another meal elsewhere, get snacks and head to the campsite where we’d be meeting friends for the evening or if we needed more food at all.
Turns out we did need more and it was found at ‘Alba’ 🤓

Mich got his ‘once a trip’ calamari order and I wanted gnocchi but decided to try the duck pasta instead, since I can neither cook nor easily order duck easily at home.

Both meals were very enjoyable 👌🏻
Mikes being crispy little strips with a zesty lemon garlic sauce instead of chewy rings and my pasta having a savoury, brown gravy type sauce.

We did not share meals that time and our stomachs protested due to that fact but not in an all together displeasing way 😜

Before leaving town we found a pop machine to fill up a reusable plastic bag boughten from a dollar store at home.
It worked perfectly as an ice pack, as was my intention but I wasn’t sure it would work as hoped 🤪

Standing, laying and walking don’t cause too much pain but sitting has proven to result in much upper back/rib pain for over the last month, so I’d been concerned about the icing options.

Leaving Jasper we headed to find the Lucerne Campground to meet up with our friends and family. We drove too far due to lack of cell reception for our google maps but by doing so we got to see the picturesque ‘Moose Lake’ ☺️

By the time we got to the campground, it wasn’t long until the sun starting retreating and we spent our evening around the campfire and under stretched out tarps, due to light smatterings of rain.
Suffering from smoke inhalation and enjoying the conversation until heading back to our hostel after midnight.

Which is probably one of the latest nights I’ve had during this whole pregnancy 🙈

To Do, To Eat, To Visit

May 2nd –

Come Thursday our ‘to do, to eat, to visit’ (not eat who we visit 🤪) list, was greatly shrunk… one remaining item was to visit our other set of grandparents.

Besides that, we didn’t have any specific plan and decided to let the day take us where it would 💁🏻‍♀️

It took us to Utrecht because Mike found a store there that carried Tout Patisserie macarons 🤓
Which are the best macarons we’ve ever eaten and had planned to get from Amsterdam, depending how our trip went.
The place we went to only had two of the pistachio flavour, which is our very favourite, so we purchased them and thought maybe they would satisfy the sweet tooth enough that we wouldn’t need to make a stop in Amsterdam.
