Be Our Guest

The guest room/bathroom was our last ‘room’ to be completed, unfortunately so, since we had a fair number of guests before it was even remotely occupational and now due to 2020’s travel issues we’ve had none 🙈🤪

Here you see it in some of its former grandeur…

From left to right –  What is now the bed nook. What is now the little countertop area. What is now the bathroom.

Once a layout was decided on, the wall building and drywalling etc. began.

I wanted to make use of the space that was available behind the door, (the far right photo above) so a closet would be installed, new handles put on it from Amazon and then it was filled with bedding/home items, so our storage room could be used for more tool-y bits etc.

Due to a mishap from the store, we had one box of flooring that didn’t match the rest, so Mike did some super fancy puzzling and STILL managed to complete the floor without it, since he already had the glue on the floor and the store was over an hour away.
He literally used EVERY piece of flooring we had and I’m still not sure how he did it 😂
He said he’d never had so few scraps 🙈 I ordered peel and stick tiles from Amazon for accent flooring in the bathroom area… we really went for that ‘use all the leftovers’ and ‘peel and stick stuff’ in the basement 😅 Honestly though, I’ve been super happy with how the peel and stick tiles have looked and held up 🙌🏻

Here it is ‘finished’ but yet, far from it 🤪

And now, as it currently stands…

The vanity in the bathroom is from Ikea.

It was $70.00 or so dollars, came with the vanity top and I was happily surprised with how much room it actually has inside!
The legs were spray painted gold and the brushed gold faucet, towel holder and toilet paper holder were purchased months earlier, on sale from Home Depot. The mirror in the bathroom is from Winners.

A sliding door was installed for the bathroom.
Mike found the roller part of it on sale so that’s why we decided to go that route, though it makes sense to use that style, so that the floor space doesn’t have to be clear for a door to swing open.

A potential problem with guests being so slovenly with their suitcases and such 🤪
The door itself was purchased on the local buy and sell page and the exact style I wanted 👍🏻

We had these Art Deco style door plates from one of our many projects/finds/I don’t exactly know where but they worked as little finger pulls on the door, while adding much visual pleasure 💗

A shelf was installed in this open nook area to give some more space to place things upon/add some character to the room.
We covered it using marble drawer liner, so it would match the nightstands and brackets from Ikea were sprayed gold and installed as a decorative aspect.
The mirror is once again from Winners 😏
The blue vase is actually one we bought when living in Holland and the dried leaves are from the palm plant I killed 😜 Our extra bar stools fit beneath it perfectly, so that worked out wonderfully, storage wise👌🏻

I find a lot of simple pleasure in making up the ‘welcome basket’ and putting little oft forgotten necessities in the bathroom. Probably more pleasure in that preparation than the actual action of having guests 😂

The duvet cover is from Amazon and though there is something about it I’m not 100% sold on, it couldn’t be returned due to having been washed, so for now it will be kept ☺️
I love the colors in it and the idea of the tropical design but as I said… there just seems to be something that’s a little ‘off’ 🧐
Adding the headboard and getting rid of the pink rug helped a lot though.

The headboard was a $5.00 find at our local ‘Habitat For Humanity’ and after a light sanding, vacuuming and washing, Mike attached it to the wall and I’m super happy with it 😁

The little ‘nightstands’ were made using small leftover pieces of countertop from the Mac House Makeover! 😁
We also made sure to put power outlets on each side of the bed for easy device charging 🙌🏻

Walls/ceiling were also insulated where possible, since the room is below the kitchen and beside the laundry room, two decently high traffic areas that could hinder ones guests restful mornings 🤓

I still want to add a few finishing touches here and there, art above the bed for example. I just don’t know when I will get around to such things, so I decided it was high time to share this, the last real ‘made over’ space in our home ☺️

Prepared For Landing – A Nursery Reveal

1 week and 4 days until Baby H’s due date and his room is now officially completed! And none to soon I think 🤪

Since our house only has the option of two bedrooms upstairs or one in the basement, it was a simple choice of where the newest addition will be dwelling.

Upstairs… in my craft room 🤪

Meaning I had to sort, discard and disperse my craft/art supplies throughout other areas of the house, which was no tiny task if we’re being honest… though it was rewarding because I do SO enjoy getting rid of items and finding new, usable spaces in our home 🙈

I put together an idea board for how I was envisioning the rooms transformation and so it began…

A Tropical Welcome!

Well, an occasion occurred this week, which I wasn’t ever really considering as a future event in my life… our baby shower!

In Canada, it is more customary to have a shower AFTER the baby arrives but due to me being someone who does much better with time to prepare, wanting to be able to enjoy the shower rather than be learning the new baby ropes during a celebration, having summer weather to enjoy and covid being a weird post baby thing to factor in, we opted to have it pre baby H’s arrival 😉

I’m so happy we did and thankful for each one accepted the ‘out of the ordinary’ and made the time and effort to make it such a special day ☺️💗

To begin with… the theme, location and wording needed to fill out the information for the invitation was decided upon.

Obviously, ‘tropical’ was what we went with 😉

I didn’t have to do very much for this event, for which I truly do feel rather guilty about.
The sister and mumsie gathered decorations, worked on the details, recipes, food planning, games and all else that goes into hosting such a soiree.

Not to mention all of the outdoor work and preparation that Mom and all the family members put in 💗

On the Monday before the shower, I treated us girls to manicures and ice cream as a pre shower treat… even though ‘post baby shower’ back massage trading, is probably in our futures as well 😜

Wednesday came with some balloon blowing up, thoughts on deck seating arrangements and a game plan for the following morning.

That night and I’m sure before as well, I have no doubt prayers were going up all around us for nice weather.
The forecast had been bouncing back and forth between full rain, part rain, cloud, full cloud, part sun… you get the idea 🤪

What we got was a nice, cool, clouded morning for set up and then a perfect mix of sunshine, blue skies and fluffy clouds, with a hinting of a breeze come start time ☺️
Making for a absolutely, perfectly comfortable (and bug free) environment 🙌🏻

Using a mixture of leftover balloons from my wedding and some new color assortments, my sister rigged up this awesome display ☺️

Painted cardboard cutouts made up the backdrops base and then balloons strung together with fishing string were added using all means of adhesion 🤪
String, tape, wire etc.
Greenery and tassels were added in accordingly and how I wish balloons would last and that the whole thing could be transferred to the babes room to be.

Mumsie and the sister-in-law worked tirelessly on deck and house prep.
Chair placing, table arranging, deck furniture wipe downs, bug prevention, food layout and all else!

It takes a village to raise a child they say… but I think also to throw the pre party 😬🙈

We even had time to sit and rest up, get in a back massage and change outfits, before guests began arriving at 3:00 o’clock ☺️

It was a potluck style spread of edible enjoyments, both savoury and sweet 🍽

Refreshments aside from water, were a coffee punch and sparkling peach lemonade 🍋🍑🥤

The ‘event’ began with a welcome, a prayer and then the indulgence of enjoying all the fare.

Following that, the first game was passed out.

The winning guest matched 7 of the 15 language/word combinations 😉
I did a trial run of the game pre party and got ONE right… mostly by accident 😂

Next up was the play dough game.
Everyone was separated into groups and given a couple colors of play dough.
They were then given instructions and a 5 minute timer began.
Each team had to create a baby and then whatever embellishments they wanted and or could accomplish in their time limit.

It was then left up to me to judge which one I considered to be the best… and the worst 😂

The one on the very bottom being the chosen winner and the middle-ish/to the right, being picked as, the least appealing.

After laughter subsided and belly’s were satisfied, gift opening began… and continued… and continued!

I was truly blown away by people’s generosity.
Not only in the gifting but in the efforts made to come, food that was brought and the overall feeling of love and support… and the many uplifting compliments on ‘the bump’…which is truly such a nice term when in reality it could be called such things as, ‘the protrusion’ or ‘the beach ball’ for example 😂

Mingling and munching continued on throughout the time together. It was a very enjoyable day and I felt very spoiled, thankful and blessed 💗

(If you were able to attend and have pictures, I’d love it if you could send any! ☺️)

So, in conclusion… little bebe will not have to go without and this mom to be, can rest easy in checking items off the list and knowing what’s left to get in order to be prepared 🤓👍🏻

Thank you SO, so much to everyone who made this special celebration possible!

Tastless Thoughts And Expected Surprises

Friday Oct 13th –

I worked that morning and Mike ran errands, got a haircut etc. between the drop off and pick up of myself.

He’s been having a hard time finding a barber that will meet his European standard for mens grooming 😏😉😜

It was a fresh, -1 outside, so when he was late to pick me up, I began walking and it was brisker out than I recalled -1 feeling 😜

Lucky for me, hubster had thought to turn on my heated seat AND buy me a Starbucks, hence the late retrieval 😉

A pumpkin spice latte.

Which I do not like, not even a smidgen and we had JUST discussed that fact, days before 😏

It was the thought that counts 💕

Though thoughts do not TASTE like caffeine running through ones system 😜

After getting back home… and caffeinating, to the other home we went. Continue reading “Tastless Thoughts And Expected Surprises”
