Untimely Unwellness

Saturday morning began with a family breakfast ☺️🍞🥐🧀🥓

Afterwords, Mike went to the barber, Tim, our nephew going with for some guy time 😎 They returned with churros 🤪

During their time away, Lake was entertained by aunty and uncle, and I got to relax.

Writing and being served coffee 😉

Judith and I went for a 6 km walk, knowing the rest of our day probably wouldn’t hold much movement, as we were headed to a garden party 🤓

Walking a new route with a new companion (no offence to my regulars 😉) surely makes the walk go by quicker 😅

Lake had been fading in the health category for a couple of days, but it was really showing up this day.

Snuggling with us after his nap instead of jumping up and wanting to be taken out of the room to play, and then slowly becoming more and more clingy as the day went on.
By the time we got to the garden party, he only wanted to be held and didn’t want to play, or eat anything aside from watermelon. All out of the ordinary for him 🤪

We partook of all the food items available, enjoying the variety of goodies 😉

We eventually took Lake for a walk in the covered wagon supplied by our hosts, to try to get him to sleep. It worked… for a few minutes.

He then just lounged in it, as he was gazed up and wheeled around…

making it really seemed like a pretty luxury accommodation for a special occupant 🤪

Dinner was served, and we happily indulged in that as well, of course, as we’re no strangers to accepting food 😉

After that, we took Lake inside where it was a cooler and less strenuous for our arms, as we could sit on a big comfy couch with him.  Mike went back out to mingle after Lake settled a bit, and I stayed until he fell asleep… and then I actually fell asleep for 20 minutes too 😅

I felt bad once I awoke, as they’d put a note in the doorway to be quiet because there was a baby sleeping…but it wasn’t just a baby 🙈

The guys went to play a game of soccer late that evening, after the party ended. So Lake and I were taken home to go to bed.
He threw up before bed, and the poor little guy was very warm and having a hard time getting comfortable.
Making for a pretty restless night, with many wakings due to his cough and phlegm, causing many paci losses and hasty replacements 🤪😞

It was a little disappointing that the day Lake had his first real bought of ‘cuddle inducing, don’t put me down, and comfort me’ sickness happened during a day that held beautiful weather and multiple people I know a bit better than some, and could have really visited with, but that’s life 😉

I’ve Got This Feeling

Wednesday Aug 30th –

Mike and I headed to town so he could again, try to figure out what was wrong with the car and after that try to sell some Cookies.

Which he did both 😏

An all wheel balance cured the car of its major shakes and Family Foods in Prince Albert now stocks stroopwafels! 😄👌🏻

I cleaned and a tip was given and goodness that’s a good feeling 😎
Especially since my last job cashiering offered no tips, ever…and even if it had been offered, we employees ‘were not allowed to accept’ 🙄

After getting back home, I had to figure out a supper plan so I went to the 21 day fix Pinterest board 👍🏻📚

Broccoli and cabbage were stir fried with a marinade and toasted peanuts 👌🏻
Mike grilled the chicken and I made a kind of tomato ish/soya sauce which was less pleasing but alright 😜

I really liked the peanuts added in with the veggies and though I have eaten things like that before in restaurants, it somehow had never occurred to me to add them in on my own.

Thursday Aug 31st –

Another morning of cleaning and then town errands.

Mike required a lock chop (hair cut) before we head to the states, so we searched out a salon for him to try.
While I waited for the deed to be done, I ate my packed, quinoa salad for lunch.
Right beside Dominos Pizza…🙄 Continue reading “I’ve Got This Feeling”

An Overabundance Of Little People

Sunday May 27th –

Since there is an over abundance of children around here, Mike and I took our own vehicle to church that Sunday morning.

Our oldest niece here got to sit with us during service and it’s a good thing Uncle Mike was there because he made a rather comfy perch for her during the entire service 😏😋

Michiel was staying at a friends so he could work for some different folks during the upcoming week, so we parted ways and I went home with the rest, to a lunch of soup and melted cheese bread 😁

A nap should have happened but I had to go to our house to sell the wishing well it had, had on the lawn, and the people wanted to come during prime nap time 🙄
Then, they had the audacity to say it was larger than they had expected and wouldn’t be taking it! 😜

Maybe this is a silly question… but wouldn’t you possibly think to ask how large an item is before driving over 25 minutes to pick it up? 😏

The bro was working on some more of our electricity and plumbing and then later he and everyone else came over to Mom and Dads for a snack and the pre bedtime sounds of 3.5 tired kids were enough to send Aunty to the basement to rest her ears 😜

(Baby Sarah doesn’t make much noise so she’s the .5)

As I updated the blog that evening, I noticed the advertisement at the bottom of the page was for the very same, specific place in Hawaii which the sister and I had been jokingly daydreaming about going to.

What’s creepy though, is that we looked on her phone, via Dad’s wifi and the ad was now on my husbands laptop…
I don’t like the internet 😬

Monday May 28th –

A walk/jog was bound to happen at some point in the day as it was a beautiful one, so I prepared some juice for post consumption😊

It was one of the most diverse juices yet and the taste made the fact known by being ‘fine’… but tasting more like a nice healthy drink and not a delicious fresh juice you could guzzle 😋

We four girls, along with the sister-in-law and her wee people, went to the paved town for an hour of walking and jogging, each doing one or the other, depending who was on stroller pushing duty 😜

It was tiresome but the good kind and afterwords Mom made everyone sandwiches to enjoy outside.

I retreated to my room in the basement to whip up some cement decor, as that’s the only non kid access place in the house at the moment and then I retreated outside to enjoy the sunshine 😊☀️

We all went over to Becca’s for a pizza dinner and it was a tasty and loud affair.

((As I wrote this, I laid between ultra soft sheets (from Costco👌🏻😏), enjoying the silence, loving having everyone here but truly loving the silence I was finally experiencing at the end of my day too 😋💕))

Spencer was attempting to say my name weeks ago but he finally got the ‘ss’ part of ‘Jess’ out, so that was a proud moment 😉😋

Al, the second oldest niece, is an almost constant source of entertainment with how she words things.

The girls were told to pick their toys up after dinner as our visit was nearing its end, and her immediate and chipper response, with a hand in the air and widened eyes, was, ‘Okay! That won’t be like… no problem at all!’

Earlier she’d seen the fairy I bought as a gift for the oldest niece and she very seriously told me, ‘to be careful because fairies were VERY break-iful’ and later in the day when I’d put a roll of tape on my wrist since my hands were full, she seen it and immediately exclaimed, ‘Oh, my, goodness… I love your tape bracelet’ … but the way she said it made us wonder if she wasn’t giving one of her very first attempts at sarcasm??!😂

Coerced Into Cooperation

Monday Feb 27th –

Moms arrival morning!

Soo, we weren’t the most awesome children in the sense of picking her up, but we blame the traffic jams in Europe.

She was scheduled to arrive at 8:00 that morning and with that scenario our options were to leave the apartment by 5:00 am to get her on time oooor leave once traffic was calmer and get her like, 3 hours later.
Option three?
Get her to take the train 😎😏
My poor mom… I’ve lived here for around a year and a half and wouldn’t dare take the train alone but her second trip here and we make her do it, by herself 🙈
In our defence, the train station is literally IN the airport and it was a direct ride to Arnhem where we would pick her up.

She did very well and after one phone call to us for assistance, she managed to get to the right platform, onto the correct train and we picked her up around 10:00 am.

We went back to the apartment straight away, not pulling our usual, ‘make the guest stay awake until at least 8:00 pm’ 😏😜 Continue reading “Coerced Into Cooperation”
