$70 Sofa & Love Seat Makeover

And finally, some details about the mini couch makeover the sister and I undertook! 😁

We often send each other postings of goodies that are for sale in the local areas, ooing and awing and just as quickly saying ‘no’ and forgetting about them 🤪

This time, that was not the case.
The moon phase was supposedly full and affecting people and their decisions… not sure if I believe that’s a thing but we will use it as our excuse 😂

She sent me a picture of the two blushing beauties, saying how they looked to be in great condition for only $50 but she didn’t need them.
I replied that ‘yes, too bad I didn’t need them either’.

There was a slight pause and then I asked her if she wanted to go pick them up to which she responded, ‘yes’. 😂
Very sporadic, very unlike us.
We had to get the hubbies on board, as a trailer was needed to pick them up, so once they agreed to go along after work, we scoured the selling sites to see if there were any other goodies to be found whilst we would be in the city.

I found a dresser and our couch seller had a three piece, end table set that the sister took.
Those aren’t the subjects here though 🤓

The couches were previously owned by a 90 year old lady and in mint condition. They probably got dirtier within a week of being in my house than they were their whole lives at hers.
…Not sure what that says about my housekeeping skills 🤪

Anyways, they were both squished into my living room for the time being and I couldn’t wait to begin the revamping of them…

The next day my sister came over and we began disassembling them 🤓

It began with removing the skirting and what a world of difference that immediately made 😅

The potential shining, so much stronger than before 😂

Next we gently began pulling up the wrinkly/ruffly bits between the cushions and on the bottom edge, to see what lay behind and how we could go about recovering them smoothly, with the fabric gained from the bottom skirt material.

Nails were removed, staples pulled, legs taken off and spray painted… all without much fear of ruining them since it was only $25 a couch… not counting time and gas to get them but still 🤪

The men were slightly perturbed and unsure when they seen what we had all taken off, having not realized that had been our plan all along.
But when AREN’T men perturbed mid home project? They can envision how a house will be built or an engine fixed but not how a home project could turn out 🤪

We used a steamer to iron out the bottom of the couches where the staples and what not had caused a little havoc… I accidentally started on one corner with the highest setting, not realizing it had lower options so it got a smidge burnt but not in any kind of terrible way 🙈😜

I just used hot glue to attach the smooth velvet around the roughly bits between the couch back cushions, as they had pulled up easily and were just as easily secured back down.

Tacks were ordered off of the Amazon so we could secure the piping into place where it came loose from us removing the skirting and that completed the make over! 💁🏻‍♀️🎉

They may not look EXACTLY like some of the vintage inspired/now modern again couches that are in style right now but I don’t think we could get much closer for having spent a total of $70 (not counting gas for retrieval because that was familia bonding and you can’t put a price on that 🤪).

I will be keeping the large one and eventually my sister plans to take the love seat.. until then my living room is much pinker than I ever imaged it would be and I am also more ok with it than I would have expected 😉
